Question where to get waste veg oil

I would like to make a batch of bio. never have. but all places and people i've talked to say it is hard to come by waste veg oil. Restauants by majority sell it back a recyclable. is this true are there other avenues to obtain wast veg oil. I'm very interested in makin my own. but for the cost i will probably let someone else doit. Any sugestions. Would like to experiment a little. Thanks

Most restaurants pay to have it hauled off and are willing to give it away to avoid that cost.

Try small town restaurants, The Big Boys don't like to go to far away from major highways. Small town restaurants have to haul it away themselves and will generally give it away free.

Since ethanol is heavily taxed you are not going to find it cheap.

Build a still and make your own. Not sure what the legal limit is but you are allowed to make a certain amount.

400 gallons per quarter. You need a permit from ATF if you want to make more than that.

I have a couple small family owned restaurants I pick up from and one thing that makes a big difference (in my case) is being dependable by having a regular pickup schedule

Ethanol costs more and has to be 99.5 percent or better, which is very hard to do for the "home-brewer". My new reflux-still will recover 190 proof or 98 percent, but the Ethanol will have to be run through a "molecular-seive" in order to bring it to 99.5.

Methanol really can't be made at home but costs about half of what Ethanol costs so is a better option.

I wouldn't even try it but............I found someone to fund my experiments so we are going to try making Ethanol from Glycerol [ which is a sugar ] and waste ag products. If I can do it, then we won't have to buy Methanol anymore!

Heard on the news today;

Some guy got plowed E85:
Ended up in the hospital because his Blood Alcohol was 8 times the legal limit (EMT say its a miracle he lived with BA so high).
Got fired for drinking on the job (he worked at a gas station).
Tried to sue his former boss claiming he shouldn't have been fired for drinking gasoline.
The Judge did not agree with him!

Where do all the crazies come from?
