Question 4.6 into older truck

I have a complete running donor vehicle with verynice 4.6 and good Auto od trans. I know the previous owner and his maintenance shedule. It's a 1993 Crown Vic with 130,000miles on it, body is badly rusted out! I would like to use complete powertrain in a pre 1980 Ford 2wd pickup and was wondering what is involved in such a swap, and if anyone else here has ever tried it? I have no previous experience with this engine but I have liked what I've seen so far.
Thanks in advance

SmokeyBear31:
That even looks like my Crown Vic chassis, how was the fitting of 67-72 cab to the CV frame. Have you done anymore body panel fitting after these photos? How did you work with the wheelbase issues.

Looks COOL so far!!!!

That should be identical to your chassis as mine was/is a 93 Grand Marquis. I only had to notch the floor support and cab corners on both sides to clear the wider frame. I've test fitted a front fender and it looks GREAT!!...

The stance is perfect. And I didn't have to cut the first wire to remove the body's wiring harness, everything unpluged. I didn't have to open up the ac lines either, the heater/ac case is like a clamshell on the firewall, you can see it sticking up in a few of the pics. The front cab mounts almost line up perfectly to a hole in the frame so all I have to do there is some minor trimming. I'll have to make a rear crossmember to bolt the rear of the bed but that's no big deal at all. I am going to use as much of the original Merc wiring as possible and add the digital dash, automatic climate control, power windows, locks, cruise, etc. to the truck. I'll probably even use at least the driver's airbag if not both of them.

The wheelbase is almost identical. 114.8 on the truck and 114.4 on the car, just enough to close up a little of the gap between the bed and cab.

All I canthink of is WOW!!!! The incentive is growing. I don't think I would use any of the dash, I like the old 100mph sweep speedo of the 67-72s but my CV had the rear air bag suspension, and that would be cool.
The early 90's town cars are on the same chassis and they seem to be excessively cheap around here, maybe I'll test fit the 67-72 body on the 93 CV chassis and if it looks as good as yours I'll watch for a nice low mile Lincoln.
This chassis would probably work great for a 66 shorty stepside I'm building for the wife. Hey before we got married, I told her I would build her any old truck she wanted as long as it was a Ford, and within about 5 days she found a 66 Ford F350 and that was IT. Now have 1 66F350, 1 66 F100 stepside, 1 65 F100 stepside (southern w/o title), and 1 66 Mercury M100 longbed complete w/title (rotten).
Keep us all informed on this project!!!!!!
If you're going to jump in might as well use both feet!

SB31: That will be one nice ride when its done, 4.6 are good on fuel, all stock chassis parts and reliable. How's it looking for space under the hood? Custom inner fenders/rad support? I'm not going to scrap the 93 crown vic now!
Keep us informed/educated on the progress!

Under the hood looks pretty good, It looks like I can use the original inner fenders for the truck (modified of course) I'll either have to do a tilt front end or reverse tilt hood to fit my ac on the firewall but I wanted to do something like that anyway.

That is one nice old shorty. And it will have a clean ride. I think a nice set of torque thrust wheels would look even better, now you could find factory air ride from a lincoln and you could have it even lower!
Nice work!!!
