Hello everyone. Firt timer here. This looks like a wonderful place .... Been reviewing this forum for a upcoming PO401 and PO302 repair. I am amazed at how often these two DTC's are in the same forum post.

I am the original owner of a 98 E150 Club Wagon Chateau with about 120K on it. Got PO401 and PO302 errors to tackle with the wonderfull data stored on this forum that I am sucking up. Going to remove the EGR and clean the ports and decide after removal to clean or replace the EGR. For the PO302 I am not sure to replace the Boot only or get a COP and boot for # 2CYL. Would a member please tell me which cylinder is number two.

I am not scared of the project ..... do my own brakes, Contour Timing belt and front wheel bearings and did the Alternator on this van. Just not sure fo #2 after a search on this forum. I appreciate the responses offered.

Treat the problems separately.

For the P0401, clean the throttle body ports, then be prepared to replace the DPFE sensor. Don't bother replacing the EGR valve, they seldom go bad.

Cylinder #2 is the second cylinder from the front on the passenger side. Plan on replacing the COP and the plug using plenty of dielectric grease on the new COP's boot. If the plug is very fouled, replace all of the plugs as a follow-on project. Use only the Motorcraft plugs specified at www.motorcraft.com If you have never had the plugs replaced, they're probably well worn.

Thanks Steve. I did have a $1000 repair a little over a year ago and they did replace plugs and COP's on #3 and #8. IAC valve was replaced too. Transmision serviced as well. I will check plug on #2 though. I will get a Chilton or Haynes manual to help too. The procedures do not scare me but the van egine compartment does. Tight mother in there. Thanks man.
