From that one picture, it doesn't look rough at all....

 

well, it has 3/4 turn play in the steering. dents in the doors, no oil pressure at the gauge, the pinion seal leaks, some holes in the wheel wells in the bed, and a dead cylinder. if it ever stops raining, i am gonna do some investigating into the motor. the frame is spotless clean, and the air conditioned cab with tinted glass, interior hood release/lock, and am/fm/cb are in very good condition, as is the C6 trans. i am trying to decide wether i should put the 4X4 setup under this one, or put the a/c cab on the 79.

 

AM/FM/CB? Wow, haven't seen one of those in years!

I'd comb through both trucks and see what is not rusty, somewhat rusty, and very rusty, then pick the best parts from both trucks and make one nice truck, then put the TLC into surface rust issues if any, wiring, and so on.

If your 4x4's frame is thicker/stronger (F200/F250?) depending what you want to do with the truck it might be worth repairing instead. Or, one can strengthen and box the clean frame of the truck in the picture.

Sorry if that didn't/doesn't make any sense... I've had 5 hours sleep two days in a row - was building a roll cage for some friends. Going to bed at 2am two days in a row when you have a "party baby" at 6am is rough!

The good news is the pulleys for the CNC machine arrived yesterday, so I can now figure out the stepper mounts and the belt lengths.

 

well, making 1 good 4X4 truck with the best parts of the two, and then putting all the rest on the two wheeler and selling it to recoup some money was the original plan. but now i have to rethink whether it is worth it or not. i might just make one and sell the rest of the unneeded parts.

 

Ebay the parts, at least the desirable ones.

I guess the complexity of the project depends what parts are good, or not good, between the two trucks. As always, I'm happy to help, though my back is as bad as yours.

If you're short on manpower for the back-breaking stuff, I'd be more than happy to lend you me large engine crane, with the homemade "bed yank" extension. You're welcomed to modify the extension as necessary. I have chains, eyebolts, and so on from when I took my bed and cab off.



The crane is at the front of the garage, so getting it out into the driveway to load into your truck shouldn't be too bad with the both of us lifting it. It also comes apart, to some degree. The only thing "wrong" with it is I lost the cotter pins for the leg pins. Not a big deal if you glance down at the pins to make sure they are in all the way before you put a load on it. Once there's a load, the pins absolutely do not move.

You only need one crane with the extension I made to get the bed off by yourself. I did it without torquing my back at all. Also, if you have a crane as well, you can use yours and mine together, to lift the cab up, then you pull the chassis out from underneath, and put the cab on sawhorses. I have four metal sawhorses I can loan you as well. I have two in the driveway, and I think the other two are out back somewhere. Let me know, you're more than welcomed to borrow this stuff. I used two sawhorses to support my crew cab, one front, one back, no problems. Strong sawhorses.
