Intermittent wiper weirdness *HELP*
So I have the intermittent wipers. The work fine on low, high, wash.....but on intermittent they just stay on slow speed. They quit parkking years ago, so I just time it just right at bottom of stroke.
Now they were staying on even with switch off!! So I picked up a working switch assembly set from a donor (with the black box thing) replaced, and still same problem!!!
If i even turn the key on, they are on low always. Occasionally they work correctly while I am watching them. I grounded motor, switch but still no luck
WHat does a guy have to do to have working wipers!! I have thoroughly cleaned all contacts inside the first switch to no avail.
Is this a ground issue? PLease help
PS It is a 1977 FORD RANGER XLT 2WD.

If you've had a motor apart before, sure, alignment mark the case and take it apart, you can't make it work any worse than it already does right? If you have knowledge of motors and basic electricity it should be pretty much intuitive, it's just a DC motor and a switch. Dennis Carpenter lists the motor for $230 and LMC has the good replacement motor for $299 and the overseas replacement for $90, so it might be worth fixing it yourself. Let us know what you find. well, autozone has new wiper motor for $51+ tax. It is probably not OEM, but it has lifetime warranty.ARe you talking about that little black box? It is Motorcraft "17C476-" and then there is D3TB AA 260 6 K 26 and then a big "2".
The other one from the donor truck has a different number all together. I noticed it had one less wire in the harness then my original (?).
I would like to use my original switch because I opened it and cleaned it all up, it operates very smoothly.
Is the motor grounded through the bundle of wires coming from the motor? There are four wires I believe. Or is it grounded by it's mounting to the metal?
Any thoughts?

Yes, I cant remember the last time they parked correctly. I would reach under the dash and push on all the wires and they would park!! I have cleaned all the plugs down there, all harnesses, and it is still like this.
The replacement switch I have has some different numbers, I noticed. This one I replaced should be the original part. I bought this truck 14 years ago from the man who had it new. I have every receipt, even the window sticker. I cant imagin him having probs with it. If I remember right, it worked for the first 5 years I Had the truck.

How would removing the wipers affect the ground entering the motor? Which wire is the ground? My shop book shows 4 wires for intermittent, and 3 for non int... It just shows a ground symbol from motor body, but no actual ground lead.
you mean mechanically disconnect the wipers from the shaft?? Or electrically disconnect the switch while running? I dont understand.

Mechanically, so there isn't any interference trying to do the electronical thing

Ok, Your showing me a schema of the switch and governor, but you want me to remove the wipers from the wiper motor, right??
Just want to make sure.
THANKS a bunch for helping me out. I have the interior completely removed, and a fresh coat of urethane primer, and I want to fix all these little probs while It is in this stage.
