Thumbs up New bio user

Ok people, after reading posts a few months now, I have come to the conclusion about this bio-diesel stuff. I want to start making it as I aquired a few cubes of wvo. But it still sounds like it is very dangerous to make.(I don't want to blow my garage up) I want to make it at a small scale , no more than 20-30 gal. every other week. I need to look at a source of koh and methenal in small quantities. Any help would be greatly appreiciated.

What is wvo?
Is "koh" potassium hydroxide?
That methanol sounds volatile, and explosive. Sure the neighbors won't mind?

WVO=Waste Veggie Oil
SVO=Unused Veggie Oil
KOH = potassium hydroxide
NaOH = sodium hydroxide

Methanol is no more or less explosive or volatile than Gasoline, Keep sparks and open flame away just like any other Flamable.

Check with any racers or race-tracks for Methanol. Small amounts of NaOH are available from most Hardware stores as "Red-Devil Lye"

as said here the easiest way to get methanol in small quanities is race shops specificly go cart shops. only buy enough for one batch so your not storing a very flamable liquid in your garage esp if it is attached to your house

on the other hand relying on red devil lye will really increase your cost. NaOH or KOH does not go bad and will not be a major safty risk for storage. Buy a 50 or 100lb bag and save your self some money. But keep it dry.

These materials require lots of safty percautions but if your not careless and avoid sparks (such as drills for drill pumps or mixers) you can produce Bio safely

enjoy

Thanks for the replies. I would rather use koh, it is said it mixes easier. I'm going to try the 5 gal. processer first, and go from there. From what I been reading, if you keep fumes from escaping, it's usually safe.
