HELP!
I need to get my hands A.S.A.P., on a wiring diagram for my ford f-100.
My truck has some obvious short, somewhere. My battery exploded while the truck was off. The new battery smells like sulfer now which is what it smelled like before the last battery blew up.
I have replaced the altenator and voltage regulator, twice.
The battery keeps charging even when the truck is not running.
Can anyone give any suggestions or advice to find a wiring diagram that maybe I can get off the internet?
I have looked all over the net and have come up with nothing so far.
I really need something that I could download and print.
I would be willing to pay for this info. it anyone could help.
Thanks, Musmly65:-(

Are you sure the battery is charging when the truck is off? If so you have to patent that system quick....free power
Are you sure it isn't discharging? Or possibly even a dead short to ground causing the battery to discharge so quickly it is burning up?

I agree with musmly65 on this one. Take it from me Im an electronic tech batts do not charge them selfs. Sounds like you have a short some where off of your main power. Check all of your heavy (4/6/8gage)wire for signs of wear, melting, breakage whatever...if you find nothing there check at the solinoid and coil and work your way back through the firewall looking for rubs.

Welcome to the site Musmly65! Sorry to hear about your wiring problems. I’m starting to put some diagrams in my gallery, click on it and see if they help you out any. Exploding batteries are dangerous and make a big mess, wear eye protection and hose down all that battery acid.

Dis-connect that battery pronto. Put a 12v test lamp (a tail lamp will work) between the pos bat post and the pos battery cable. If something is drawing current, the lamp will light. Pull fuses and unplug connectors until the light goes out. Be aware that it may be an intermittent problem if a wire with a bare spot starts shorting to ground while driving.

Actually that test will work alot better if you use the negative battery wire instead of the positive

Maybe the problem was never found, but, for anyone else here is a suggestion. If your cable from the starter relay to starter is worn through and resting on the frame AND you have a bad solenoid it is possible to short out with the truck off or IF you have a bad ignition switch.
If the battery exploded from the short, there are only a few cables and items that can drain that much current without total melt down. Your starter, starter cables, and maybe a bad alternator are about the only things up to ARC welding.
