Engine Swap
I recently aquired a 1967 Ford F-100 Custom Cab in hope of fixing it up and having a little fun with it. I was simply wondering how hard it is to swap a 460 into one of these trucks. It presently has the inline 6 and the 3 speed and i plan on putting in a 460 with a c6. All i want to know is whether or not the motor mounts will line up and how hard it will be to find motor mounts for it. My the way its just 2wd. Thanks for any help you guys can give.

From what I've read, the frame is just fine, but there are frame mounts that you'll need to find -- I think those were mentioned in the earlier link. You'll probably want to swap the front coil springs for something heavier. I've seen the springs labeled as I-6 or V-8 in one catalog.

I am currently putting a 460 in a 70 model and I found some frame mounts from a 76 3/4 ton and the frame mounts went in w/o having to drill holes but i cant seem to find the mounts that bolt on the motor. LMC makes a mount kit that is supposed to bolt in, and probally be what i use.
Does anyone know if those 76 front springs will work in my truck? GOOD LUCK

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-Jul-02 AT 10:31 AM (EST)]My gut says yes, the springs will fit.
HOWEVER, when looking at the Hollander Interchange manual it looks like they seem to be grouping the '66-'73 F100s and F250s in one group and '74-'79 in another. This is very different from the normal split between the '72 and '73 model years.
If you had an F350, '66-'79 all interchange.
Take a look at the scanned page in my gallery and see what you think:

We'll have to rely on someone with more practical, hands-on experience with that for the final answer.
BTW, is your '70 a half-ton or 3/4-ton?

I had 73 f100 with a 302 in it. I was going to put a 460, 427, or a 390 in it. As far as I know,(I did a bunch of reading and talked to a bunch of guys, including my dad-banjopicker 66-and they said I probably wouldn't need to change suspension) so I am saying you won't need to get a new suspension in it.

ok for this previous guy that has a 302 in your truck... i've got a 302 in my 67 and it's all jacked up. the guy that put it in there appears to have just thrown it in there. it sits a bit cockeyed because he used the stock motor platter from the 240 on one side and mounted the other side of the engine straight to the crossmember. also, I'm running a 4 speed trans out of a 1 ton. Not my choice, but because of extremely limited funds, that's all i've got to work with for now..so the engine sits all the way back against the firewall and the engine mount platters sit about 1/2 on and 1/2 off the crossmember. How can i fix this?

You need to get the proper motor mount towers, or pillars as they are sometimes called, for your truck and the 302. It sounds like whoever out the 302 in there didn't change the pillars out. Find a donor truck, and replace them. They just bolt to the crossmember.
I don't know what your tranny set up is, but it may affect your tranny mount and driveshaft.

ok... finding the mounts may pose a problem though. as we all know, the 67 never cam with a 302, and the first year that did, i believe was 1969. the front ends should match up, so maybe this'll work. would the platforms work for a 352? i've got access to a 67 with a 352 in it, and i should be able to grab the platforms out of it. Also, i've been having a bunch of clutch chatter. i'm thinking that this is because of the crappy motor mounting job. any help would be great.
