Are all Fords the same?

I am interested in purchasing a used diesel van for around $10K. I have not seen too many. I'd like to run biodiesel. Is there any years or types of engines to avoid (6.0 vs 7.3, engine management issues?, etc.) Thanks

Jeff

As long as the biodiesel is processed correctly, then, according to everything I've read, you shouldn't have any worries.

Although they all run biodiesel, I would personally stay with the 7.3.

the 6.0 was a problematic motor in the range from 2003 through 2004 but has improved since. Ford says nothing over 5% in any of its diesels but that is just their way of dodging any responsibility. I run close to 100% in my 7.3 with no issues and am getting closer to 100% each time I fill. Do a net search for Steve Baz. He has a web site that gives tips on buying a used Powerstroke on one of his pages.

the 7.3 "international" (1988?-1994) non-turbo IDI Diesel ,around 170HP depending on year

the 7.3 "powerstroke" (1994-2003) turbo DI Diesel ,around 250HP depending on year

From what I've read jeff, if you get a Powerstroke you should be ok. Ford switch over in '94 (94.5 model) and from what I can tell that's about the time they stopped using rubber in the engine. I like the '96 & 97 years. But I'm an OBS guy. I would stay away from the 6.0L for like 03 & 04.
