I need some help with purchasing a tonneau cover. I know a lot has been said on the forums about them, but I did a search and didn't really find what I'm looking for. Basically, I just purchased a 2001 Reg. Cab LB F-150 and I'm looking to put a tonneau on it. However, it came with an aftermarket bedliner that comes over the bed rails. Most of the covers I've seen require me to cut holes in the bedliner, which I'm not too thrilled about. Anyone know of a good tonneau that will work with the bedliner without having me cut holes in it? Thanks.

 

take a look at the Access roll-up cover. Have had severa and really give them a thumbs up. Should work with bed liner. Uses clamps under the rail to install. No drilling........easy install.........about an hour. If you want to haul or hook on to a 5th wheel, it just rolls up out of way. Good support bars.......stands up to 3-4 feet of snow.

 

Umm... lol he said it goes up and over the rails... He'd still have to cut into the liner.

 

Apparently I'm dumber than a brick and didn't look close enough. The bed liner doesn't come up over the rails, but it does have factory installed plastic rail guards on it. I called up the company and they said it shouldn't be a problem, so I ordered the Extang Tuff Tonno. Thanks for the help anyway.

 

And of course you could always take the plastic rails off...

 

looks good but wait till you have to roll it up by your self to use the bed.or find you can't resnap it when it's cold out.i have had 2 and never again. the company it self is great to deal with just it so bulkie. i wish i had waited and gotten a roll up one

 

My daughter owns a 2002 F-150. She had a bed liner and typical vinyl tonneau on it.

We took her bed liner out yesterday to find considerable rust and corrosion in the bed which will require it to be patched, sandblasted and repainted.

The plastic bed liners trap water like you would not believe.

After getting her bed repaired, she is going to have Line X done and get a Retrax cover like mine.

I have had my Retrax for 5 years - installed on 2 different trucks. It works and looks as good today as it did the day I installed it on my 01 F-250 PSD. I liked it so much, I kept it and installed it on my 04 F-350 King Ranch dually.

Thanks guys. There's a lot of things I'd like to do to this truck, but at the time, I simply cannot afford it. It came with the plastic bedliner, so for the time being I'm stuck with that. I'd really like the spray-on, but I can't right now. Anyway, the tonneau I ordered is the snapless, which seems to work like a ziploc bag. I never really had a problem with the tonneau on my old truck, but again, it came with the truck, and I never thought to see what kind it was. I only had the truck for a few months, but it did get to be a pain putting on all the snaps, which is why I looked for a snapless this time.
