Goin' to Calgary

I just booked and confirmed my tickets to Calgary!!!!! My buddy Brad and I are flying to Calgary for the Stampede. We're flyin' out the evening of July 4 and returning July 11. I was there in 2001 and didn't think I'd get the chance to go back. It's gonna be a boot scootin' boogie good time!!

See if you can find time to go to Race City. There's a few drag racin' trucks that are daily driver/work trucks. Then again, Calgary has quite alot of smokin' cars & trucks on their streets.

Thanks for the idea. I want to check out a cowboy church in Cochrane that I've heard about.

I'm also interested in cool cowboy bars. We like to bar hop lookin' for the best party in town.

Getting Closer To Stampede Time......

So, I guess you don't plan on buying a Western vehicle to drive back to Ontario?
There was a nice little restaurant called "Perry's" in the South East of Calgary (about 10 minutes from Race City). Not exactly a cowboy bar, but the food was good. All I can remember about the location is that right on the corner of the intersection there was a Mohawk??? gas bar. It's generally east of the big ditch highway and south of the "downtown" area and I think just north of railway tracks that run east-south-east. I made a point of going there for lunch as often as I could including when I was in Calgary in 2000 for a "load & leave" mission.
Have fun .

Flyin' both ways. We leave July 4 at 8pm. I wish I could pick up a western truck and drive it home but there's no room here nor can I afford it.

Thanks for the suggestion of Perry's. I'm lookin' forward to the free breakfasts that happen throughout the city. In '01 we went to several.

Perry's,That's at Glenmore Trail & Ogden Road.

Big Ditch highway ? ( you must mean the Deerfoot expressway ?)

During stampede we have numerous FREE breakfasts & FREE BBQ's all over the city.

They are listed in the Calgary Herald and Calgary Sun Everyday

Thanks for the specifics. I'll have to pick up a local paper when I get there. We have no set itinerary but I'm sure we'll keep ourselves busy.

Isn't there a really good steak house restaurant close to Marlboro Ford as well? That was 10 years ago & only one time.

The best place for steak in Calgary is The KEG.

Drive along McLeod Trail for Restaurants
There are just so many places that are good to go to and during the stamnpede every place is usually packed.

Btw, Marlboro is a cigarette

Marlborough is a community.

That whole area is full of Gangs.

The best place in The Marlborough area ia "The Olive Garden"

Calgary with almost a 1,000,000 people has ONE Olive garden ..what a disgrace

I lived in Calgary for 26 years until 2000, when I just could not take the snail-paced traffic any more.
Marlborough, and especially around Marlborough Mall, is just like going to the Bronx, New York.

I locked my doors and rolled up my windows any time I had to be in Marlborough, and i made sure that wasn't often.

Stay the heck off the East side of town and you will have a great time in Calgary during Stampede. Try and find some of the bigger Bars... its a hoot!
for 26 years I used to SOOooo look forward to those 10 days

On edit: Learn to pronounce Calgary like a Calgarian too...
CAL gree
not cal GAR ee

2 syllables , not 3. Then everyone won't know you are from Ontario
