Any one have an idea about the cost of having my 1970 F-100, long bed either sand blasted or sanded. The paint that is on there now is terrible.

 

It would depend on the body man's rates. I don't really know what they make, but 10 years ago the premium body guys were getting $100/hr. or better. I would imagine the prep work of stripping the old stuff would be a good bit less than that since the paint guy would farm that out to the hired help.

 

If you had an air compressor you could rent a sand blaster and DIY

Sand blasting creates pits and I would not recommend that but my cousin has a chevy he had bead blasted for a couple hundred dollars in NW Ark

If you are going to have the complete body done I would suggest media blasting because sand ,even bead blasting ,creates heat that will distort your sheet metal. The media blasting uses plastic or sometimes crushed walnut shells and doesn't heat up. I don't know of any place to get this done here but I will ask around.

Yes, sandblasting will distort metal, and it will also find every thin spot of metal on the truck also (I really don't want to tell how I know)
