Does anyone else but me think that th 150 FX4 supercrew defroster is just about as useless as all *&%$, it takes forever to thaw out even a little ice or snow and you can forget about the windshield washer when there's ice...I had a F350 that used to blow you away when plowing, you had to keep the window open, this thing i need to block off the passenger side vent with my gloves just to keep the drivers side clear.

 

Welcome to FTE. I dont have any complaints about the defroster in my supercrew. Maybe there is something wrong with yours?

 

I don't rely on the defroster to clear ice off my windshield, I use a scraper for that. But what I have noticed is difficulty keeping the windshield clear on really damp days, regardless of outside temp. I can barely keep a small viewing area open on the windshield and the front drivers and passenger windows, but forget the rear door or rear window glass. I don't think the defroster vents are aimed properly, or they don't have the proper dispersal pattern for the greenhouse on these vehicles.

 

I scrape the snow and ice off also, my problem is when it snow hard it builds up too much. It sounds like it blowing up a storm on high but it won't keep it clear. I even crack the widow thinking that it might help relieve internal pressure to no avail

 

No probs here. Maybe you have a door sticking in mix box??

 

we have the opposite problem here in lower alabama
last night while out with the 06 supercab, the outside air temperature was 74 yes 74, and 90 percent humidity, the stupid windshield was fogging up on the outside i.e moisture condensing in the windshield

looks like the air duct doors are screwed up, great, now they have to pull the dash

 

I've had a problem with a stuck thermostat on both my 02 and 04 5.4 engines. This had a considerable effect on the air temperature from the heater defroster.

Might be worth getting checked out.

With the thermostat working right the windshield defrost function works great.

 

Got a 2006 XL 150, was a little annoyed with the defroster, I live in Michigan. But, I have a Freestar with the 3.8 and its a little slow to warm, so the 4.2 also is a little slow. I've learned to defrost the winshield first, then change the mode to the dash vents to get the sides and back, works quite well.......but the engine is slow to warm.

 

May want to check to make sure that the outside vent for the system isnt plugged. I had a 91 t-bird that did what you were discribing and it was the intake for the system was covered with some air silencing materail from the factory that fell down. Otherwise you may have to go through the system to make sure all the doors and vents are opening right.

 

A note on Defoging your windows on a damp, humid day/morning:

As silly as it may sound, hit the A/C button. Even though you are on hot defrost, this will help because one of the functions of A/C is to dry the air. So you get hot dry air hitting your windshield instead of damp hot air.

Almost all domestic vehicles turn the ac compressor on when you turn the selector switch to defrost.

Also make sure you dont have the inside air reciculation position selected, by allowing outside air to heat or cool the vehicle, it equalizes the air moisture and drastically reduces fogging on the inside. I am not sure all model have this selection or not.

 

juts put the setting on frull windshield, and level 4 on the level, and put it to hot when the truck is warm. Afterall, it is a V8 and no matter if you have a 4.6 or a 5.4, it will take some time for the engine to warm up

 

I'm just glad it's spring where I don't need to use the defroster again for a while (I hope)
