1997 Exp 4X4 problems

I would like to know if anyone might know what the problem might be when I put my rig in 4X4 mode going forward it'sseems to be ok but when I put it in reverse it wants to grind and come to a stop, especially when turning. Is there something wrong with the rear end or would it be something else?

Are you on dry pavement? What it's doing is binding up especially while turning.
Would'nt recommend engaging 4wheel unless you really need it for snow ice off
road on at least really loose gravel.

It sounds like you're binding your system hard...most likely due to driving with it locked in 4x4 on dry pavement. That is a no-no.
