the new 06 dodge challenger concept

The characteristic wide-mouth grille is there. So are the rectangular tailpipes and pistol-grip shifter. Even the Challenger’s black racing stripes on the hood are on the new concept. But instead of being done with paint, the stripes on the concept car are exposed carbon fiber.

The four-passenger Challenger concept also has six manual speeds, rather than the four speeds of the original car. The single, large rear taillight is illuminated by diffuse neon in the concept, and tires and wheels are 20-inchers. The front and rear track are 64 and 65 inches, respectively, which is wider than that of the 1970 Challenger. And the side glass is narrower than it was on the original Challenger.

The Challenger concept is powered by Chrysler’s 425-horsepower 6.1-liter HEMI V8 whose deep tones were heard at the press conference. Chrysler officials said the car should go from 0-to-60 miles an hour in 4.5 seconds, which is on par with many sports cars, and top speed is 174 mph.

“This is the faithful reincarnation of a muscle car legend,” Creed said.

If given a final OK for production, the Challenger could be in showrooms by the 2009 model year. 425 HP if this gets on the production line i think the mustang will have some competittion. what do u think????

Like most concept vehicles they have put all the bells and whistles on this. I'm sure if it's every built it'll have a smaller engine and fewer options.

But it sure does look sweet.

Sure would be awesome of they built this the way it sits. Great 'retro' car. I almost like it more than the mustang..

Actually, the 425 HP 6.1 liter motor is the non-conceptual part of the car-it's reality. Has an even higher torque peak than the 5.7 liter version with 80 more horse. The 5.7 liter Hemi would be the "smaller" engine.

Should be popular if they offer the car as pictured, but you know how brain dead they can be at Chrysler sometimes. The Germans are really screwing the outfit up. The ironic thing is that the Chrysler brand is more profitable than the Daimler part. Worse thing that ever happened to Chrysler is when Bob Lutz sold them out by claiming Daimler and Chrysler was a "merger."

It was no such thing. Most of the new board was German.

I see the 6.1 liter being the high end of the model, kind of like the shelby with the Mustangs.

I do like the look of the car, and I have to say I like it a lot better than the camaro concept. But thats my opinion. Hope it doesn't change to much.

The 6.1 will be the largest option at first. But Chrysler will have other stuff on the backburner in the future.

Word in the auto industry is this will pretty much be nearly identical to production model that WILL come out.

You think Chrysler is gonna sit around and let Ford pump out mustangs and then let GM release there new Camaro? If this thing comes out, I pretty much gonna be getting one down the road.

I love this car!!!!!!! I just cannot stress that enough. The best thing is that this car may actually be produced much like it is now.

I am a fan of Chrysler, but as was said, they have made some questionable decisions. However, I do not think that the merge with Daimler has been such a bad thing for the company. I have noticed that quality of their products has improved since then.

It would be interesting to see what will happen when and if both this and the Camaro come out. If they both make it to production and if the GTO is still being made will make sport coupe type vehicle choices very interesting.

If I were in the market for this type vehicle, based on style and my observations from actually driving a couple models available today I would go this way
1 Challenger
2 GTO
3 tie Mustang/Infinity G35 coupe
4 Camaro

I'm sorry, but I was extremley dissapointed with with the GTO. I feel it wasn't true to its roots, and was another time where GM put a badge on something trying to make it look fast.

how the crap did an Infiniti G35 get into the mix?

the GTO looks sad.

i like the camaro but it looks more like a pontiac than a chevy. i saw it live at the auto show.

the challenger looks the best but it's still a chrysler product.

i'll take the mustang.

I'd have to agree that the GTO does not do its name justice, neither does the charger (even though i really like that car it just isn't a CHARGER..) I found the camaro to be ugly myself. The mustang and the challenger are the only good ones as far as i'm concerned.

To quote something I heard recently:
Dodge revealed its striking Challenger concept, which proves that the most powerful tool in modern car design is a book of all the stuff you used to do when you were a good car company.
And I am not going to enter in the GTO discussion - just for you guys - I think you all know I happen to like the vehicle

I put the G35 in b/c its a 2 dr sporty coupe, roughly the same size as the others. I drove the thing several times and was really impressed by it. Based on my experience with it I would consider it with the rest. Granted it's a different layout but w/ the manual its a fun car to drive. My friend that had it ended up trading it on a new GT. They are both great cars for what they offer,

if any body has played the new need for speed game the GTO is a knock off of some forign car which disapoints me greatly cause i liked it too for a GM product but like the new charger it is a sedan ( least they offer a 6sp w/ it unlike the charger) but any way the new chalenger looks bad@ss its bout time mopar came out w/ somthin nice lookin to

just my 2 cents
