Talking 1965 Rear Axle VIN decode

Hello there I own a '65 Supervan and have most of the VIN decoded EXCEPT for the axle code of "17" ... I have looked through my'65,'66 and '67 Service manuals and no mention ... can anyone help?

Thanks

okay, here's the deal. you have one of the 65's with an unlisted axle code. it isnt in any books or liturature from ford since they only screwed it up for a couple of months. i had to go to the top for this one. after many years of vins going into the human computer, you have a 3.50-1 9 inch rearend.

You Sir, are the Golden Chalice of the Econo Gods ... I appreciate your effort ... and thanks for taking the time ... I'll bolt this beast back together and send you a pic. Rumour has it that there were fewer than 450 made ... so I think that this crate deserves the effort ..... nobody seems to appreciate the Econoline ... they were cheap ... used up .... and generally abused as a workhorse ... prostituted if I might add .... everybody that seems to have a survivor or has spent as much time as yourself in becoming an expert ...is unique in this world ... as all old econo people are ...
