I seen the new toyota tundra on motor trend recently, and I coulnd't help but notice where it will be built. It seems this "F-150 Killer" is going to be built in the place where the F-150 is king, I'm talking Texas! I'd like to know what your thoughts are to this bold move, especially those from there. I think it's a smart move, from Toyota's perspective, but I don't think it will win many people over.

 

Both my mom and stepdad had really thought of working at that plant when the news came up about it being in San Anton'. It didn't happen, at least just yet, but if the paycheck doesn't bounce, it's all fine by them. Fine by me, too. They both drive the older C/K Chevy trucks, btw. GM doesn't pay their house note.

As for Toyota putting the plant in SA, well, no one was stopping Ford from building one in that same spot before Toyota got there. Toyota even considered H-town, but the constant ozone alerts there made them consider other options. Ford can feel free to stop in Houston and make a plant there as well.

In regards to winning folks over....making a profit is what counts. No debate needed there.

Mind you, I won't be buying a Toyota, since anything since the first Tundra has been awful looking (and smallish), but reality is what it is.

San Anton' needed the boost, too. When the tourists aren't coming out, it's a doozy for those who work on mainly tips on the Riverwalk.

 

I don't like it one bit. I was pretty sure they would find a way to make it even uglier than before.

 

its still a weak truck. i mean they still went with old school non slotted rotors and 5 lug axles. there must be six identical threads of this.

 

I think it's obvious why they are building them in San Antonio. Toyota can say, "hey, look at us, you can't get any more Truck than a truck built in Texas". What Toyota is not saying is that it's also good for them to have quick access to labor south of the border. They have the best of both worlds. Ever been to an East Texas chicken plant? A midwest hog processing plant? A construction project almost anywhere in the U.S.? I'd be willing to bet that a lot of the Toyota "employees" turn out to be contractors.
