Just got an '06 2.3L 5-speed Ranger and went to get the Fumoto oil drain valve, like I have in my other vehicles. The way I interpreted the Fumotovalve.com website, I needed the F-107, but it was way too small. Called them up and they were surprised, thought I might need 16mm diameter instead of 14mm, they're supposed to be sending me another one to try, I think the F-106. My Ford dealer parts guy said his system showed the oil drain plug size same as in the '05 Ranger, so this seems odd.

 

Interesting. When you confirm the correct part # for your '06 4-banger, let us know.

What valve did you end up using? I sent an email to FUMOTO before I ordered one for my '06 2.3 and and was told #107. So I hope it works, you said it was too small.....hmm. I should get mine this week so I'll post if its not right.

 

The guy at Fumoto has been VERY responsive, but is very surprised at my problem. The F107 was WAY to small for my oil pan, I sent it back and he sent me the F106, which I will try in about a week (I'm driving 200mi/day).
So, actually I went to my Ford dealer and got a new oil drain plug, just so I could get the part number and see what size it is. So that is XW4Z-6730-BA, and it is labelled 15mm, but the Fumoto guy is mystified, says he has never encountered a 15mm drain plug, and it's not on the list of sizes they support. Well anyway, next oil change I'll find out and will try to remember to post it here. With an oil change due every 2 1/2 to 3 weeks, really hoping to nail this down for the Ranger, the Fumoto has been great in my Subaru Outback (now 160k miles).
If you get the F106 and it fits for you, please LET ME KNOW, so I can scratch my head some more

OK, update on this. I did oil change today. The good news is, the F106 is definitely the right size. The bad news is, the recess in the oil pan is such the Fumoto cannot be screwed in. If there were an adapter increasing the length of the threaded part of the Fumoto by 5/8 or maybe 3/4", then you could screw it in, but as it is, I'm out of luck. Also interesting was that the oil plug the Ford dealer sold me (I bought one so I could find out what size plug it was plus get the part number) is way too small, so I will schlep back to the Ford dealer to get my money back. You'd think I was buying a cylinder head or something, not an oil drain plug...

 

lol yeah. Ok that really sucks. I'd let Fumoto know, they will probably make a newer one, but somebody's gotta let 'em know. And with your frequent changes, you need it, so tell them! lol.

 

Okay guys, I emailed FUMOTO and they said that it is definetly #106, and they have the adapter needed to make it work, which is an additional $6.00. They are sending me #106 & the adapter, plus a return envelope for me to send back #107 + $6.00 check. I hope they get this into their system so other people don't have to go through the same thing. Although I must say FUMOTO has been very coperative.

 

Good news, glad they have an adapter. And yes, they have been very responsive. I hope they spend some time and update the info on their website, will save everybody a lot of time and bother. I really don't mind though, it is an excellent product.

 

Got another phone call from Fumoto-san... The adapter I need is the ADP-106 adapter...

 

Hopefully closure on this issue now... Took the wrong size oil drain plug back to Ford dealer, the guy was stumped as the system was telling him it was the right part. Then he went at it using my vehicle VIN, and it came up with the correct part, F6TZ-6730-BA, and it does look correct. He said it was a "Ford cataloging error" and he was going to email them. OK. I guess my only remaining gripe, which the Fumoto should solve, is that the Ford guy told me the correct drain plug is $17 and change, though he first discounted it to $14, and then to the original $11 I paid for the one that was the wrong size. Seems like an awful lot though... Oh well, so what else is new ?

 

I hope this works, I got the F-107 and according to their charts the F107 is good through about 2004, so maybe Ford changed the oil pan? I could not install mine either as it is recessed and so got the adapter but will wait until time to pull a sample next spring or summer to install it. I was not so keen on having the extra long drain plug (adapter adds over half an inch), but guess there is nowhere for it to go, it's all pretty solidly made. I do love changing oil (or drawing off excess) with a Fumoto--such a breeze!
