anyone have any idea on how much horspepower and torque a stock 1969 429 4 valve engine with ported and polished dove heads would make?

from the factory they were rated at 365hp ,but in reality im told they were probably closer to around 325.so depending on who did your headwork im guessing maybe 345-350 on a bone stock 429.now add a alumn intake headers ,cam and carb and then you could be around 425 or so

 

Well a 429 4 barrel (4V stand for 4 venturi, the 429 has 16 valves) with ported & polished D0VE heads is hardly stock and the definition of "ported & polished" is pretty generic. The factory rating for the 69-70 429 ThunderJet with 11:1 compression and a 4V carb was 360. That was SAE gross HP which consisted of dynoing the engine with no accessories and a minimal exhaust system. Some say that it was over rated for advertising purposes although the 429 CJ was rated at 370 HP and the consensus seems to be that it was under rated for insurance purposes.

If and that's a big if, the head work was done correctly there could easily be an additional 30-40 HP depending on the exhaust configuration. If all they did was hog out the ports & gasket match then it's probably just a 429 block with a pair of iron paperweights bolted on top.

The factory rating for the 429 CJ was 370 HP @ 5400 RPM/450 TQ @ 3400 RPM. I have a stock 429 4V ThunderJet in my 1970 XL. It pushes that 3800 lb car around just fine even with the tall rear end gears. The only modifications to the engine are a Pertronix Ignitor ignition module and a BG Demon 725 CFM carb.

 

should this engine be enough to push my 78 f-150 around with still quite a bit of power? i have a 3.50 gear ratio with 33 inch tires

 

More than enough. My 400 moves my 79 F250 4X4 with 3.50 gears and 33" tires around very well. The 429 will have power to spare.

 

Mine is not a 4X4 but the truck weighs in at 4160 lbs with me in it. No doubt you will be happy with a early 429/460 ( No Substitute for Torque in Cubic inches) check out my Gallery!!!!

 

I have a 460 with C9VE heads in my 77 F250. I occasionally put 6000 lbs of whatever needs to be hauled behind it and it does just fine. It will do whole lot more if I ask it too.

 

I'm new to this site and just recently bought a 64 f100 and also purchased a 429 w/ c6 tranny. Since I'm new to the ford world I was wondering if anyone knew what year/type engine I have, C9VE-B from what I can gather is a 69, but other than that I'm not sure.

 

I believe that those are the 9.5:1 compression heads. I don't know specifics on the 429, but since I have a 460 with the same heads, I do know that they produce about 360 HP. You will have to run Premium with them too.

 

C9VE and D0VE heads are the same. They run 10.5-11:1 C.R.
