Question Swap

I posted yesterday and know one replied. I'll try again. I want to swap out my 390 for a Cummins Diesel. I think this can be done. Has anyone out there done this kind of engine swap. My freind who has a 69 High Boy is swapping out his 390 for a 91-92 Cummins Deisel. I would like some info if anyone has some. I want to know if I can do this with my 76 High Boy with relative ease. You probably think I'm crazy but it will be beneficial for my driving. I like to off road and daily drive. Better fuel economy and towing capacity, just to mention a few reasons. Thanks for the time,Alan........

I would like to use a 12 v if I could get away with it. They make some high cold cranking amp batteries out there. If not 24 volt I do have enough room in the engine compartment....Alan

Hey diesel79F150,

Did you ever have Red 79 Crew with a Perkins Diesel in it? If so, I have spoken to you before on the phone.

Anyway, welcome to the forum.

Hey diesel79f150,
My freind has a perkins diesel. Is that a good engine choice for my 76 f250 4x4. I own a 95 Dodge Cummins. I would like to use a cummins. Also to answer your question earlier 12 or 24 valve is there a hugh difference. It is a cost issue. Anyway keep in touch. If I can get some prices I might be able to start this new project this year. Caio....Alan

well you can use a 24v valve but it has a vp44 injection pump whidh is a bad pumpand an electronic engine .if it were me i would find a 96,97 cummins and use a p pump which is a mechanical and as i recall were rated at like 245-265 horse the one in your 95 is probably a ve pump which is a decent pump but cant get as much horse power as a p pump but what ever you decide let me know if you need so info on the cummins....billie

Hey, deisel I was wondering would a 96,97 fit? As I stated earlier I have a 76. Didn't they shorten the cab by 3 inches in 72? Would I have to modify the fire wall? I would like a simple as possible switch if possible. Yes I would like info on the 96,97. What trans should I use and where to look for this set up. I appreciate you chatting with me. Alan.......

Look at autoworldmt.com & fordcummins.com Use the 96-97 12 VALVE if you can come up with one for a manual trans use a NV4500 (5spd) or NV5600 (6 spd) If you want an auto I don't have a preference. Built up Dodge tranny from a "95.
