I think I have a wheel bearing going out. I have shopped everyone(pep boys, autoZone, advanced, Napa, ect...) and they all say that the front wheel bearing is a sealed non-servicable item and I have to buy the whole hub with a new bearing already in it, BIG money. But the ford parts web site you can link to from this forum shows both the high dollar part and a cheap outer and inner part. What gives? How do you know before taking the front end apart which one I have to buy? If mine is a sealed bearing is it possible to buy just the bearing and press it in to my hub? Thanks,

A 4X4 uses the 1 piece sealed unit, a 4X2 uses the cheap replaceable inner and outer bearings. The 4X4 wheel bearing/hub assembly is not serviceable.

 

Dave is right. I replaced mine several weeks ago at a tune of 276.00. The bearing and hub are one and non serviceable.

 

OUCH!!!! I was afraid of that. Thanks for the info. It may be more money but at least I won't have to fool with sending the wrong parts back because I cheaped out and bought the less expensive, wrong ones!
