How do I go about identifying what I have!! I would also like to know how to identify the trans and the transfer case! I think I have a pretty good Idea of what I have but would like to make sure!! Thanks

 

The rear and front end are probably danas, and they sould have tags on the side of the pumpkin cover,it will say D4.11 or something like that. Thats your ratio and if Im not mistaken it also says D4.1160 which would be 4.11 ratio dana 60's. As far as transfer case and Transmission I dont know too much about. I know theres a different shape to the pan on the c-6. Maybe someone else can help you with that. Sorry I couldnt.

 

On the right side axle tube there should be a number stamped in the tube this is the bill of materials number a ford dealer should be able to tell you how your axles came loaded from the factory or post them here and I can check them in my Dana Spicer axle book.

If the axles weren't changed, you can use the axle code on the door tag to identify the axle ratio and a whole lot more. If no tag, rotate both tires one revolution (same direction) and count the number of driveshaft revolutions. If you can turn only one tire, rotate it two revolutions while counting driveshaft revolutions.

From what I've seen, the front axle is most likely a 4.09Dana44 and the rear axle a 4.10Dana60. Axle code for 4.09/4.10 is A4 ("locking" rear diff) or 24 (open diff). I think that was the standard ratio from about 67~77, with steeper gears (such as 4.56) being optional.

The transfer case is a NP205 if the truck originally had lockouts on the front axle. The transfer case shifter **** reads 4L N 2H 4H with a NP205. If the truck did not have lockouts originally, it has the NP203 transfer case.

The transmission is most likely a NP435 if the truck has a 4speed, or a C-6 if the truck has an auto trans.

I'll bet you the engine is/was a 360 ("Y" letter for 4th character on VIN).

I'm perplexed, Why would you have to turn the wheels two turns if it isn't a limited slip diff ?

ONE revolution should give the ratio regardless of it being Locking or non-locking.
