Biodiesel Prices?

I was wondering why the price of bio fluctuates so much from state to state? I know its probably supply and demand like anything else but if the enviromentalists want us seek alternitive fuels is there anyway to regulate the price? I just called a local fuel oil company that does indeed sell bio B20 and B100 but the price was just way over the top. I only asked about the B100 and the price per gal. was $3.68 plus tax!!?? Wholly Cow!! The reason they told me was "we are the only ones here selling it around here" ok but come on! I just thought I would get some more info from around the country on what other people are paying? Thanks for listening to me rant.

The tax excuse is just an excuse. The gov gives an incentive the company producing and the retailer. Here in AZ it is 3.87 with 1.00 off making the pump total 2.87. Now this is 99 percent. For whatever reason they get to add a little more because there is still a little dino in it.

Sounds like they are going to be like Apple computer. Overpriced products that work great but have no hope of major market penetration until they decide to compete on price.

Thanks Steve 250 for the good website.. If any one else in a different state wants their local info on where to get biodiesel, just put your state's abbreviation at the end of the website's address.. see: http://www.biodiesel.org/buyingbiodi...tate.asp?st=wa

I was less than amused by our local biodiesel supplier. A year ago, my brother looked into buying it 500 gallons at a time for his above ground fuel tank.

They quoted a price of $2.60 when petro-diesel was only about $2.

So, when the petro price skyrocketed, we looked back at the bio price and said "YES! Now is the time!"

Wrong. When our petro-diesel price hit $3.49, the bio-diesel price hit $3.85. Supply and demand wasn't the issue - keeping the price above petro and maximizing profit was - at least with this company. Don't know about any others.

Thread moved to biodiesel forum.

Bio is currently about a nickle higher than dino here, only small percentages available through the pump B2-B5.
