what oil to use in FE 360

I was browsing through the threads a few months ago and i remember something about using diesel oil in the FE engines? I am posting this topic because i can't find where the thread is. Any suggestions as to what weight to use ? 15w40?
Any help would be great. even if you can find that old thread so i don't eat up space on the forum!

15X40 is good , you might check the FE forum as 360s are FE engines , and I think using up space helping each other out is a good thing and one of the reasons this site is here, bob

I would stay away from the Diesel oil... Run what oil is appropriate for your climate, nothing special needed. I run 10-30 in my older vehicles (pre-90) and the recommended mfg weight in the newer ones (generally 5-30).

I run Shell-Rotella 15w40 in my 300L6. The diesel oil has more anti-wear additives in it.

10w30. My preference is the Connoco/Philips family consisting of Motorcraft,Kendall,Phillips, etc.

Huh??

Actually, diesel-grade oil would be a great choice for you, with a much better additive package, especially for an older vehicle. It is available in 10W-30. I use Mystic JT-8 Super Heavy Duty, but there are others that are good as well - Rotella T, Delo 400 to name a couple.

what oil to use in FE360

I vote for the 15-40W family of diesel oils. Delo 400 or Rotella are excellent choices. You might pay a penalty in milage(theoretically) with the thicker base weight 15, but the diesel family offers a superior additive package.

I use the Mystik 10w30 mentioned above in my high performance 390. It does work good. Had the heads and intake off a couple months ago, and got to look at the cam. It broke in correctly.

I used the same oil in the old 360 I took out. Everything was nice and clean when I took it apart.

If you live in a warmer climate with mild winters I'd be inclined to run a 15w40 Rotella or Chevron Delo diesel oil. You should be able to find either at Walmart or any decent auto parts store.
