Coil Failure

I have inherited a farm truck that is burning out coils, 4 so far. The engine is a 534 cid from a bluebird motorhome. The truck is a dual axle, cab over f series.

I do not know if this engine was supposed to have a resistance wire or not. Or if the coil was supposed to have a built in resistor? Any idea's?

Blowing a coil in this truck is really bad news, as the air system will loose pressure and lock the brakes.

Thanks

well turn the ignition on take a voltage tester and test the voltage at the coil it should be 9 volts or so. you can also add a aftermarket one to that uses 12v the accel does and was 29.00 and has been great.

Question

Ok, I have verified the voltage to the coil is correct.

Any other reason to be burning out coils? Bad wire to the distributor? Cracked distributor cap? Point/Condenser problem? Loose wires to the +/- coil terminals? Anything?

Thanks for your help!
