Flatheads

My Dad was killed 1 year ago and I was named Personal Rep and need to settle his estate. My question has to do with some Flathead engines, is there a use/need /market for these old engines or do I send them to the scrap yards? Any info or help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Kelly.

There's definitely a market for them. Many of the ol Rat Rod builders will search long and hard for the old flatties. In fact, once I get my body, I might be interested in one as well...nothing like a built Flattie to finish off the 'just right' look.

Mercy! For heavens sake don't scrap them! There has got to be lots of people interested. Nothing more cool then an old car with an original type engine or a rod with a "hopped up" flat head.

I agree, don't scrap them. Even if you don't know the condition of the blocks, there will be someone that will take a chance and take one or all of them away. $100 or so, each, as is. ...Terry

What ever you do DO NOT SCRAP them. I pulled the heads off of my flat head to day and it has one little crack in it. I was hoping it would be goog but I was wrong. Please let me know if you are going to get rid of them. I need one really bad. I dont want to put a modern day motor in my 48 F-1. I want that old flatty sound. So if you want to call me, my # is (606) 369-4300. I would be glad to talk to you about buying one from you. Thanks Scott

Flat Head HELP!!!

I pulled the heads off my motor today and there is a small crack around the valve and the crack runs down into the cylinder. Its the 3rd cylinder back from thr front of the motor. Can this motor be fixed or should I look for another one. The cracks dont look bad b/c I have seen worse. But there is a crack on both sides of the motor and I know thats not a good thing. I talked to a man today that has a flat head 4-sale and the trans goes with it for a 100 dollars. He dont know if it is cracked or not either, but he did say the motor is stuck but the trans is free. Should I take a chance on them for 100 dollars or should I keep on looking. Thanks for any info you guys can give me. Scott
