02 Explorer rear window problem

The left rear window on my explorer has stopped going down. I recall that the last time it did go down, it took a moment to get moving as if it were stuck. I assumed the hot day had made the window lining stick to the window and after it cooled down, I'd have my window back moving again. No such luck!

So I took the door panel off and measured the voltage at the motor connector. 12V and -12V depending upon the position of the rocker switch. When I hit the switch, I can hear a faint knock coming from the motor, but the window does not move.

Do I have a bad motor? Is there possibly a reset on the motor that I can trip? Anything else to try before I buy a new motor?

Thanks,

Chris

The window motors don't have a reset, it sounds like a bad motor.

motor replacement time

Okay so I have to replace the motor. After looking inside, it's obvious that 4 star srews hold the motor to a black plastic assembly that is held to another black cable assembly with 3 larger star screws.

I would like to just remove the motor assembly without taking out the regulator, cables, etc. Is that possible?

Can I just remove the 3 big star screws and pull the motor from the cable assembly?

Any info would be great.

Thanks.

I'm not sure about the cable type of regulator, but typically the regulators have a spring in then to balance the weight of the glass. With the window closed (up) I would think you should be able to remove the motor, to be safe try to put a piece of wood to keep the window up while you remove the motor. Good luck.
