V10 vs Powerstroke

V10 vs Powerstroke
My son has a 2001 Powerstroke 7.3 4x4 sb lifted. Awsome truck. I plan, in the near future, of getting my own F350, and here lies my delema. I don't care for the noise or smell of a diesel, but I am afraid if I get a V10 I'll be giving up something in power. Then again, I understand you can run V10s on 87 proof.
If I could get some feedback from both sides

Newer Powerstrokes are alot Quieter and more power than V10 any day also more Economical better mileage Especially when towing. I have now owned mine since 2001 and I have never noticed the diesel smell everyone hates but there is still nothing like the power stroke for towing a trailer!!!!!

What noise an smell. I have a 2003 7.3 PSD an I love it. Once you have a diesel you never go to a gasser again. Be prepared to spend several thousand dollars more though. One thing about it I could sell my PSD in a second whereas the V-10 might take awhile. I do love that power though.

What do you plan to do with the truck? Daily driver, grocery getter, towing? Diesel are
good, V10's are good, 3V seems to be excellant. Mine, 04 V10 does a great job towing,
daily driver also, mileage doesn't compare to diesel, but not bad, round trip from CSprings to Vail and back average 14.5 mpg, not bad, beats my old 460, but it's what
winds your clock, and what fits your budget. My wife hates the smell and noise of diesel, so I had to compromise, not one bit sorry about the V10, only not getting the 4:30's.

Mike 415 has the key points. High miles or low? Towing every day or sometimes? How heavy is the tow?
I am low miles, carrying a camper, pulling a boat. Truck weight is about 12600 lbs, max for the truck. But the total weight is around 15000 lbs, which is not an overall large load. Not an easy decision.

Exactly my comment "drive both" but my question is what are you going to be doing with the truck? Hauling long distance probably the PSD. Last year in August we got ours and the rebates and discounts was awsome. Also check out the power curve on both engines.

I've driven both - my Fath-in-law has the V10 and I have the 7.3 PSD.
I prefer the PSD. There is not much difference (if any) in engine noise while in the cab. You can hear the diesel more if you're out of the truck, but not inside the cab. Diesel fuel smells less than Gas...so not sure where you're coming from there. I use my PSD F350 as a daily driver to work. No heavy towing really...just my all around vehicle. I get better gas mileage and have more power than any V10 out there...plus my resale value will stay higher...longer with the 7.3 PSD.
My Fath-in-law that has the V10 drove my PSD last week. His reply was, "Holy crap...my nipples are hard."
I think that pretty much sums it up!! He's now looking at buying a PSD and selling his V10 gasser.

I hope so, you paid more for it up front

Dawson, I've been struggling with this choice as well (V10 vs PSD). Tried to do some long term math: how long am I going to keep it, how many miles, how do I drive them, guess at the the fuel economy (I don't think any one of us drives exactly like the others here), and what I think the difference in price between gas and deisel will be while I own it.
My theory at the momement is that the difference is small enough that I should get what I want. Now, if I could just figure out what that was...
