2.3L sputters
My 1992 Ranger 2.3L runs fine at cold start-up, but after a few minutes it begins to sputter and run like on only two cylinders. It smells rich and sounds like a helicopter. The fuel pump, filter, and MAF sensor have been changed. New plugs and wires have been installed, and coils tested. What could this be?

Pull the diagnostic codes. Check the fuel pressure... Is the fuel mileage down a WHOLE lot? Did this happen 'all of a sudden' or develop over time?

Codes are spout circut open, low voltage to EGR, and loss of dual plug control, which have been showing for a long time. Fuel pressure is good, and yes mileage is WAY down. Had a similar problem at higher RPMs and the new MAF sensor cured it for a short time.

CV Ranger:
Post your question in the Ranger Forum. There are members who frequent there who have the pinpoint test information for the codes you have.
