my 1979 F-150 351m runs with LPG. More and more cars here in Germany do the same. Who else does?

I am in Australia. I am building a 400 to run on dedicated lpg. Lpg offers the best of both worlds: cheap fuel combined with v8 power. Price is currently 35c/l compared $1.15c/l for premium unleaded petrol.

Do you know which V8 Engines need Flash Lube? I heard it is necessary for all newer Engines.

Hello Claus.
I use it on my 351 Cleveland motor. It is a special kit that feeds roughly 1 ml/l of fuel into the base of the carby. It works well and you can tell the difference in idle quality and performance once you start using it.
All older type V8's benefit from using Flashlube-even with hardened valve seats and bronze valve guides. Newer V8's I am not sure about.

I agree with what Craig said, Flashlube works well on older vehicles. I am not familiar with it on newer vehicles, and I don't believe they require it.

There are a LOT of vehicles that run on LPG here (all the Taxis, and a lot of fleet vehicles do)

BTW, both of you should join us in the International Chapter.

I´ve heard about Valve problems on Chevy Vortec Engines not using Flash Lube. My 79 351m uses no Flash Lube.
BTW tell me some good reasons why I should join the FTE international Chapter!

As LPG doesn't contain lead, like the fuel that the older engines were designed.
They require hardened valve seats, or flash lube.

If your F-150 has got hardened valve seats then you shouldn't require Flash Lube (i.e. does it run alright on unleaded?).

And you should join the International Chapter so we can talk about our F-Trucks and ramble on about whatever, just like these guys from the states do.
We are all kind of special, as I can imagine there isn't much knowledge about F-Trucks in Germany (well there isn't in Aus), so we can share everything we learn.

We could even have an online gerbil squashing event... (long running joke here on FTE)

I want to tell you something abotut american Pick Up Trucks in Germany. Nobody really needs an american P/U Truck in Germany. The Bricklayers, Road Constructors, Roofers and all the others who carry a lot of stuff around drive european an japanese Trucks with small diesel engines. Those guys with american Trucks use them 80 % for the show. With big tires, body lift, chrome bumpers and so on. My own business is a small auto repair shop specializing on Volkswagen, Audi, american Cars an Trucks and LPG. I use my Truck for carrying my junk away. pulling trailers and for the show. I coud do all this, except the show, in a VW with a lot better gas mileage. But du I want? No!
Now give me more convincing arguments to join the international Chapter.

I think your engine should run fine on LPG if it has hardened valve seats.

And I doubt that the small Japanese or European trucks can tow as much as these beasts...

i use lpg (we call it propane in canada) on my 1979 f150 460 automatic and i like it lots for the price ($0.42\litre propane versus $0.86\litre gasoline) it gives me good power but i always need more!!
i have been reading about austrailian gas research carbs the sound good. maybee i will just put two impco 425 carbs on instead?any help would be apreciated as not too many canadians know about lpg

 

in this part of canada we know they aren't "carbs".
