Carpet repair?

The carpet in my truck got damp and I ripped it hauling something out from behind the seat. I'm wondering how I can repair the rip? I know that you can call carpet guys into your home to repair sections of carpet with that really cool seaming machine they use, would that apply to automotive carpet as well? Any carpet installers or stereo installers(they carpet the sub-woofer enclosures) have any tricks or opinions on how this could be done or why it shouldn't? I have underpadding attached to the carpet as well, the carpet is from my 77 ford truck, and is out of the truck right now. It has about a 6" rip in it.
