Can anybody tell me where the flasher relay is on my 1998 Ford F-150 ?

 

It's under the dash about where your right knee would be. It is in a socket with another relay.

Ford could have tried to make it more difficult to get out, but then they would have had to mount it to the back of the intake manifold under the PCV port.

 

Thanks for the information I found it alittle while ago. That wasn't what was wrong my blinkers still do not work.

 

Check under the hood on the driverside there are a couple of fuse blocks there, and look for one about the size of a cigerette pack top 1"x 3" it could be where your problem is, Do you have trailor tow option?

 

Yes I have a trailer tow option I have checked all of the fuses and I have changed the flasher also, I'm not sure what I should check next. Thanks for the information.

 

You have brake light right? but no turn, do your emergancy flashers work?

 

I just checked I do not have rear brakr lights,but the light above the rear window works.

 

Okay you do have a fuse blown , look under the hood for that small fuse block , not the one with all the relays and big fuses, this one may still have black cloth tape on it with 4 to 6 tiny fuses in it, the box is only 1 inch by 2 1/2, 3 inches long , kinda easy to over-look.

 

I'm going to go and check the relays in that box. I do not have emergency flashers or turn signals and rear brake lights.

 

I do not understand, I now have emergency flashers and the drivers side brake light, but I have not found anything wrong.

 

I don't think it effects brake lights, but....try tilting your sterring wheel up and down while checking the blinkers. If you don't have a tilt wheel....then nevermind that.

 

jcstratt, I did what you said and the blinkers work I drive with the steering wheel all the way down when I moved it up the blinkers started working, what do you think it is? Maybe a pinched wire or just a dirty mechanism where the blinker lever is. Thanks for your help.

What I would do is to remove the plastic collar from the steering wheel and and start checking for a loose or broken wires, if its not there then its going to be in the steering column itself, theres a name for the part but I can't think of it right now. Let me do a search and see if I can locate a thread on it.

Most of the other post that I have read seem to indicate that it is a loose connecter in the column, you can check this for yourself be removing the collar from the steering wheel {3 torx screw if i remember right }and wiggle the wires at the connector. lets us know

 

The problem is usually one of two things. You have to remove the column covers and look at the top back side of the multifunction switch (turn signal switch). Either the plug has worked loose or (like what happened to mine) the pin retainers inside the connector broke and the wires pulled out. You can replace the connector if need be for $35-$42 or you can epoxy them back in place. Epoxy is easy to do and cheap, but you must take care that you do it right and not get it all up in the contacts themselves.
