'02 Limited 4.8 V8, Service Engine soon light came on the other day, pulled codes and have code P1400 - Book with code reader says this is a manufacturer specific code - "Differentail Pressure Feedback EGR Circuit Low Input". I have no idea where to start on this one, I don't have the service manual for the '02. Any suggestions? Your help is apreciated, Thanks, Don

 

Hi 9 out of 10 chances you need a new DPFE sensor.I am a ford tech and there should be a recall for your truck if under 75k miles.It is not a safety recall so you will not be informed about it. Only repaired if there is a problem with it.Otherwise it won't be covered by the recall.

 

Thanks psdiesel, the Explorer has 54,000 miles on it. Do you think I call the dealer and ask if Ford will cover this? Or will it be easier to to pick the DPFE Sensor and install it my self? Hoe expensive is it? Is it easy to replace? Thanks again for your help.

 

Yea you should be able to call dealer and they should be able to tell you if it si covered.You will have to tell them your vin#.They are kind of easy to replace. I would say they cost about $30.00.But if it is free have ford pay for it.

 

Thanks psdiesel, you are a big help, I'll call Ford tomorrow, if its not covered I'll buy it and put it in. Once I see what it looks like I should be able to find it.

 

NO problem.And if you do wind up replaceing it yourself it should be on right side of engine towards the firewall left side if looking from the front of truck.If they give you any problem with telling you over the phone give me your vin# and i will run your vin on oasis and tell you the recall # and if it will be covered.It only takes a few minutes if you want i can do it now for you.

No you will not damage anything.But i would get it fixed when ever you can.I did run YOUR vin# IT IS COVERED UNDER RECALL O2M01.BUT DON'T WAIT TO LONG IT IS ONLY COVERED FOR 5 YEARS OR 60,000 MILES AND YOU SAID YOU HAVE 54,000 NOW.HERE IS PART OF THE RECALL INFO THAT THE TECH READS FROM FORD. THIS IS ALL I COULD FIT.BUT IT IS COVERED UNDER WARRENTY SO DONT WAIT TO LONG.

It is recommended for vehicles exhibiting any of the conditions listed above and equipped with a tube mounted EGR Pressure Sensor, that the dealer retrieve continuous DTC prior to any other diagnostics.

Dealers are to install a new tube mounted EGR Pressure Sensor at no charge to the owner of the vehicle, ONLY if one or more of these continuous DTCs are present:

• P1400 - DPF EGR Sensor Circuit Low Voltage Detected
• P1401 - DPF EGR Sensor Circuit High Voltage Detected
• P0401 - EGR Flow Insufficient Detected
• P0402 - EGR Flow Excessive Detected

A failed DPFE will only exhibit one or more of the DTCs listed above. This program will not cover any other continuous DTCs, if present.

I believe all the '02s are covered.. mine went out outside of the "extended" warranty.. pretty cheap and easy to fix in any event.

ok. i have a 2002 Ranger XLT super cab 4.0
at first i bought an ODBII system and the code i got was P1400. So i went out and changed the sensor. That fixed the problem for about a week but then it came back on. I have tried clearing the error code a few times now, but it just keeps coming back. Its almost as if i never changed the sensor.

Any ideas?? do you think it could be the EGR valve screwing up and sticking??

 

I have an '02 explorer, 4.6 P1400. Went to the dealer, would not cover it. I replaced the EGR pressure sensor - no big deal ($30) reset the ligt. Light came on again in 100mi. I checked the EGR by applying vacuum, engine bogged. I replaced the EGR vac solenoid. Light came on again. Any ideas?

 

Actually you can, depending upon how it has failed and what it is actually doing. EGR problems can cause catalytic converter problems if left unchecked for too long.
