actually, that is slow compared to what the regular traffic does on 80, 75 during the daytime seems to be the flow. Running 70 will be fine, just going over 70 may be expensive...

It'll be interesting if there is a burn on speeding now. You're right about I-80.... when I go home, I'm usually at 75. Sometimes I'm not even "keeping up". In fact, it's not uncommon for me to actually get passed by law enforcement. ILEA (Iowa Law Enforcement Academy) is just down the road from my work and the police/duputies/etc from wetern Iowa that are in DM for training are just like the rest of us .... just wanting to get home.

I've seen alot of people going 65+ on the two lane blacktop lately. I myself was going pretty good on the gravel yesterday seems alot easier when your loaded down [4 drums and cummins bta6(the other one only had 190,00miles) and some assorted items] in those sprinters!! *)

Makes me wonder if they can enforce it. Travelling interstate, you'll see a trooper every now and then, but they've been short handed for quite a while. I don't see how making the speed limit higher will cause them to do their job even more? How come they don't enforce the law now as it is?? I run I-80 every once in a while and if you aren't doing 75 you'll get passed. I'm not against it at all!! dont' get me wrong, but I just don't see how they will enforce it now when they haven't been for the past so many years.

Heck I run I -80 a couple times a week, I can set my cruise at 72-73, and get passed by everything including state troops just cruising looking for donors. There is always atleast 2 in the area from 201 to 220, actually seen them pull one over today, cadilac escalade traveling atleast 90 (I ran upto 78, and he blew past me, another driver heard this guy was coming up, and sped up to 85, and the guy passed him like he was standing still) the only thing that irritates me is people run that stretch between 70-80 all time, and what are the troopers doing? in the rest area waking up truck drivers to check thier log books and other, comeon the guy is trying to get some sleep I think us truck drivers should be allowed to go to the troopers houses at 3am, and wake them up to check out thier ticket books see how they like it.

I'm the guy you all pass that is going 65 on the interstate. Sometimes I'll get frisky and go 70. That's about the extent...

I don't know if I'll drive faster too much. My truck's mileage goes from 18mpg at 45, 16.5 at 55, 15 at 65, and 12.5 at 85.

Gov passsed it.... He hopes that ppl will stay at the average speed they are now ( basically 70 ). I REALLY doubt that he believes that will happen tho.

Remember when they passed the 65mph speed limit? They were going to arrest everyone going 1mph over, and all that. Well, that didn't happen. I forsee the same thing this go-round.

Interestingly, I was going down to see my brother the other day, and I had to take a short jog on I-80 in my truck. I figured, about 3000rpm, 70mph, I wont get passed much. WRONG. Everybody, truckers, troopers, everyone, was sailing by. And my speedometer reads a little low too! So I speed up to keep up, and I'll just say my tachometer was reading 3500rpm. I also found out I need to get tires balanced.

But I do know the 390 is running well!

well, i think that since they raised it to 75, the tolerance will go from 10 to below 5 mph

Had one of my weirdest drives on 80 ever this morning. Had a loaded down truck in front of me going 55 - I can handle that, but some moron woman in the fast lane going 55 also. She's weaving all over - I thought she was really looped. I get behind her and flick the lights at her to get her attention. She just keeps swaying back and forth. Finally she blasts the gas and we're going a little over 70 around the truck. The blockage of traffic is going 80 past both of us and she slows down to 55 again.... and all over the road.

About 20 vehicles go past me and I finally can get around the swaggering 'ol gal. Turns out she's in her late 50's and trying to deal with a kid in the front seat. SO clear sailing at 70 now right? (yea right) She floors it and passes me only to hit the brakes so she can cross over my lane to the exit.

How did that gene pool ever survive?? I'm think'n some guy had to get pretty drunk.

The whole 70mph thing will REALLY slow traffic down on I-380 between C.R. and Iowa City! That little stretch of interstate rarely flows below 80............
