Well, I've got a very similar setup, 85 F150 4x4 C6, 3.55 gears, 33" mud tires, but the best I've done in the past few months is 9mpg. For a while last winter I got a real consistent 5mpg, but that was due to a dead choke. The carb is pretty much dead, but she runs so I don't really care right now. I just got a 95 EB Bronco with a 302, so the 85 is gonna be more of a toy than a daily driver. Not sure how the emissions test here in MA will affect her, hopefully I won't have to sell her .

I get about 12mpg empty and about 9 pulling a gooseneck, so I think you are doing pretty good.

I have a 92' F-250 5.8 efi 4x4 4.10 gears with a 5 spd manual and a k&n air filter. I get 12.7 mpg in town. And 14 or 15 (depends on speed) on the highway.

83 F250 2wd with 3.54 rear axle & 8000 miles since being rebuilt -
cruising at 55mph, empty, is giving consistent 16.5mpg(US gals - but I'm in NZ) on open road driving.
AOD trans, but I seldom use OD due to hilly area.
