Disable Door Autolock feature
F250 2002 4x4 supercrew
The truck has, what I consider to be, a very annoying feature. If the doors are unlocked at start-up, they will auto lock when you back-up or pull away.
If I want the doors to be locked, then I would lock the doors. It aggrivates the heck out of me that it does this automatically. I found and implemented the seat belt chime disable method (thanks FTEs), now I would like to disable the auto lock at drive away. I want to still keep the power lock feature and the remote lock/unlock. I just don't want it to auto lock.
Mr Ford. I hope you have your engineers read this site.

I am fairly sure that there is a process to change the programming of the door locks and security system. If it is not in your owners manual, check with the dealer. It is a process of turning the key on and off and taking a second step before the horn honks 4X for one of the programs, 3X for another program and so on. Our Rangers do not have power door locks but it seems to me that we changed the programming in one of the sedans three or four years ago for the same reasons you stated.
Let us know how it works out.

hmmm, lets see now, why would anyone design auto lock doors anyway ??
Might come in handy for children to not being able to accidently or purposely, open the doors while the vehicle is moving. Or,
When a woman is driving, and forgets to lock the doors after each stop and go errand, its nice to know that she has autolocking doors. That way , as she pulls up to a traffic light, a big, mean, perverted individual cannot just quickly open the passenger door , get in and put a gun to her head , as a result of her not having locked doors. ..
Always some inconveniece to safety measures, it is a tradeout, as to how much gambling on safety a person wants to take. One person may use autolocks for 20 years and never need them for the above reasons, for another person the feature may have saved their family some real misery on just one occasion, and they would love that autolocking system for it.

Palindromelol,
I have a 02 F250 and read the manual but the procedure in the manual did not work. What was the procedure in your manual? Also the manual says the truck will unlock the drivers door if you acidentaly shut it with the engine running but mine stays locked, I've been carrying around 2 sets of keys because I know I am going to slam that door shut and be locked out. Any sugestions?? Thanks in advance

I have tried to disable this feature but it won't. Did your door lock when the key was turned to the on position? As soon as I turn the key on the doors lock. So I'm not sure to wait for the doors to lock then press the unlock button or just do it when the key is turned on and then when the key is turned off the doors unlock. I have tried it both ways waiting and not waiting. I get it done under 30 secs but can't get it to stop locking the doors when the key is turned on. The manual says the doors don't lock until the truck is moving but not mine, they lock right away. Anyone heard of this? Any help would be appreciated. I know I'm going to start the truck and shut the door so I need this disabled Thanks

Mine does the exact same thing. As soon as I turn the key on, the doors lock. I have tried the procedures that are all over this forum, but it does not work on my 99 F-350. I have had a 03 and an 06 and both of them did it when it started rolling, and this procedure worked for the rolling thing, but not the key up. If anybody has a remedy for this, please share. The doors lock immediately when the key hits the run position.

Just a guess but you guys that are experiencing the immediate door lock, it could be caused by an aftermarket alarm system if you have one installed. I have had a couple aftermarket alarms that included keyless entry and if programmed to do so they would lock the doors as soon as the key was turned on. If this is the case it has to be reprogrammed through the aftermarket alarm box and not the trucks own system.
Hope that might help.

Yep, the PO of my 99 had a Viper alarm installed, he was kind enough to send me the manual to the alarm when he found it 8 months after selling me the truck. (How about that for a good SD owner). I went through the manual and deactivated the door locks. I'm glad there are auto lights and auto hubs and vacuum ***** on the dash, just let me have the option ok?
