No im not trying to compare the 2. I was wondering how many of you 04 and up 150 owners would move up to the 250 if they had it to do over again. I see alot of you guys on here that had problems with your 150s have moved up to the 250. I ask this because i have always wanted a 250 and sometimes feel like i settled on my 150. I really dont need a 250 for hauling or anything i just love the look of them and love the diesel engine. Not to put down the 150 at all it is a great truck and in my opinion much nicer interior than the 250. Any one else feel the way i do? Also i would like to here from those that have traded up to the 250. Whats your opinion? Thanks for any replys

 

I totally agree. I love the power of the power of our 6.0L f-350 it's a blast to drive, opposed to the 5.4L which is a slug.

 

I came to the market with my heart set on an F250. I didn't need the payload capacity. All I wanted was the looks and the "I own a Super Duty" attitude. However, after test driving an XL F150 in comparison to an XL F250, there was no comparison. Sure, the F250 was a Super Duty with 300 horsepower, and yes it did turn a lot better than my 1990 F250. However, the fact of the matter was that it was a gutless wonder with the 5.4L, and I can't afford the gas of the V10 or the maintanence and added purchase cost of the 6.0.
Furthermore, the interior was spartan at best, I know it was an XL but it was just plain cheap and outdated looking.
Before making the final decision, I decided to test drive the new F150 that everyone was making noise about, and BOY was I impressed. It handled wonderfully, and even the 4.6L kept it moving a lot better than an F250. This, coupled with the reduced weight and therefore increased speed and additional gas mileage, sold me on the F150. I also liked the 4 doors as opposed to the 2 on the SD (both trucks regular cabs), and the updated and roomier feeling interior of the F150. Also, I ended up getting out of there for less, and that made me happy too.

 

I went from a vibrator 04 150 FX4 to an 05 250 XLT. I wish I had started with the 250 and skipped all the problems with the 150. The 250 was about $400.00 less than the FX4.

I have not had any problems power wise with the 5.4 in the 250, it does all I ask with power to spare.

The interior of the 250 is better in my opinion. Not as flashy as the plastic FX4 but way more comfortable in the seats and more practical driver space. I miss having the area behind the seats on my 150 but that is minor. The cloth interior doesn't get permanent stains from rain or a little bit of mud like the Flint interior on the 150.

Towing goes to the 250. It hauls my boat easier, smoother and with less swaying. The towing mirrors are great. The 150 was up to the job but had it's drawbacks.

My 250 feels like some of my old 150s used to feel. Solid and able to take a full load in the bed or on the hitch.

The F-150 I had was a problem child. Bad rear ends (3), bad clutch packs (2), vibration,vibration,vibration, pcm reflash (3), bad throttle body(1). I had to have the tires constantly road force balanced just to keep the steering wheel calm enough to drive it. 16 trips to the shop in 8 months of ownership. I'm not going to blast all the 150s they are nice trucks. I can only give you my opinion based on what mine was like.

The 250 has been problem free for 11,000 miles and counting. I'm looking forward to a long productive life from this one.

 

well I justed trade my excursion for a 250, traded a 2002 f250 for the excusrion!! Need to cart the kids around. They driving now so I get to drive a real truck!! Take delivery Tuesday, can't wait.

 

Thanks for the replys. I am with you toypuller, I am hoping the 250 will feel more like my 99 150. That truck was a 4x4 lariat xtra cab with 7"s of lift and 35s and pulled a 28 foot boat with no problem. My new 150 is a crew cab lariat and struggles with the boat. The new 150 is much nicer on the inside but just dont feel like a truck. I am looking into getting a 250 lariat 4x4 crewcab with the diesel. Keep the comments coming!!!!!!

 

We have one of each. My F250 V10 and my wife's new F150 Crew 5.4L.

The F150 is a much more comfortable & quiet ride. The F250 is a work truck with much heavier components and you can tell it by the way it rides and handles. I have no complaints with either one-they're both what I expected.

The V10 feels more powerful taking off from a dead stop and it will out-accelerate the F150 0-60 and make it real close for a 1/4 mile. However, the 5.4L in our F150 seems to do better accelerating at speed once it's up to highway speeds. If you need to pass a car quick in the interstate the F150 has the advantage. Makes senese to me-the V10 in my F250 has more torque at 1700rpm than the 5.4L makes at it's peak.

Of course towing the V10 will have the advantage hands down. I tow my enclosed trailer at 6500lbs and it stays in OD or 3rd 90% of the time, even on hills.

Mileage. My F250 averages 11/12 mixed driving and a little over 14hwy, The F150 is still new and is averaging 13/14 mixed driving and a little over 15hwy. In my case there's not much difference. Honestly we're a little disappointed in the F150's mpg. Hope it gets better. The V10 is hauling around an extra 1400lbs of curb weight and only gets about 1mpg worse than the 5.4L.

 

I am thinking about trading my 04 F150 SC for a new 05 Crew Cab F250 or F350 with the 6.0 diesel. Something about the larger diesel truck that I really like. Plus my mileage on this F150 is terrible. My opinion is that if you do a fair amount of towing and want to feel confortable doing it then get the diesel. If all you do is drive the truck then the F150. One thing real nice about the F150 is that it is alot lighter and works much better when going off road due to the weight.

 

Not for me. I love my F150 and it does all I need. The 250 and 350s are too big.

 

Too bad they don't offer the V-10 in the F-150...

 

Personally, I would keep my 04 F150. This truck will haul and tow more than I will ever ask it too. Also, when I was in the truck market, the 250 had the 260hp 5.4 while the F150 had the 300hp 5.4. Back then, I was considering the 250 for the solid front axle but the new F150 won me over during the test drive with it's excellent interior and build quality. I know alot of people have experineced some problems but I haven't and I love this truck!
