302 Timing

Well, its been awhile since I've used a timing light. I don't have the manual yet for this 78 302 in my Econ. Can someone please give me a run down and the mark to look for? There are no performance items on the engine besides the new Edelbrock intake, carb, and EFI distributor.

Thanks,
Michael.

My 78 351W came with an ignition reterd unit attached to the Dura-Spark. I ditched the whole business and went to a Mallory distributor. This means the original initial advance spec is no longer valid, as I found out.

I reverted to the pre-emissions settings for this motor. Suspect the 302 will be pretty similer.

I set initial to 6 degrees BTDC, and went drom there, advancing a tidge at a time until ping, then backing off.

Great Advice

That is what I'll do since I have installed a HEI last week.

Thanks,
