Cost for a rebuilt tranny for a 1995 F150

I have a 1995 F150 2wd that needs a new tranny. So how much would it be to get a rebuilt one and how hard would it be to put it on in my driveway. Also is there a heavy duty tranny for this truck that wouldnt be too much money. Thanks ahead for the replys.

If it's a 4 speed auto in a '95, it's an E4OD. The cost of a rebuilt transmission varies from $1,200 to $1,600 depending on who does the work. What is the transmission doing? What doesn't it do?

When you hit the gas it will go but very slow if at all. We had the computer checked thinking it was that and seemed to work but it is back now.

You might check for a remanufactured tranny. You can sometimes get them cheaper than a rebuilt.

There was also a four speed auto called the 4R70W available in that year. If it has a square pan with two rear corners cut off, it is the 4R70W. If it has a rectangular pan with a square cut out of one corner, it is an E4OD. It sounds as if it is starting in 2nd gear. when moving does it shift into any other gears? Does it seem as if the trans is slipping? What is the fluid condition and level? Did you get any codes out of the computer(PCM)? What engine do you have?

If it is an E4OD, there is a very common problem with the MLP/TR sensor on the drivers side of the trans. It gets moisture in side the connector and can cause all kinds of problems and no codes like the one you partly described. Pull the connector and see if there is moisture in it, if so it willl need replaced.

auto trans codes

The transmission in a 95 F150 is probably the 4R70W, an updated electronically controlled version of the AOD. The door/post sticker code for this tranny is "U". Its overall length is less than that of the E4OD. If it is indeed an E4OD, the code is "E".

Hope this helps!
