well, this is for my buddy's dad's truck. 2000 150 4.6 4x4 automatic. my buddy been drivin it the past few days and says its suckin gas down like crazy and needs a tune-up....sine HE drives a Chebby Durasmack, he doesn't have a clue what his pop's truck needs. he's figurin on doing to plugs, cap, rotor, oil prolly too. what else does he need to look at? wires? just the general excellent up-keep items would be great, as his dad usually goes for the top of the line stuff when havin them worked on. i'll relay the info to him.

 

Well, it doesn't have a distributor so no cap, rotor or wires. It has COP's. Coil on plug. Each plug has it's own coil on it.
I highly recommend using either Motorcraft or Autolite double platinum plugs. All others do not seem to run well in these engines.
Replace the plugs, air filter, PCV valve and clean the MAF. This should get you going in the right direction.

well, that gives me a good place to start. COP is new to me...used to glow plugs. but thanks a bunch. gonna surf around the 97-03 for a bit

 

LxMan1 Said it all pretty much. I would just add in also replacing the fuel filter and make sure the tires are inflated properly. In addition, at regular intervals having the coolant flushed and the transmisson serviced is good practice for long life and prevenitive maintainance.
