I'm from Indiana of course, more specificly Kokomo IN. I have 78 F250 w/ 460 and 77 F100 w/ 302. The 78 is driveable, fun fun , with 3' body and 36'' hummer tires. The 77 needs a tranny swap, just need to clean the shop out to get the truck in. I'd like to at least partially restore the 78, but we'll see how it goes. I never like old clunkers before I took a rebuilt motor out of 79 F100 and put into a 83 F150, now i'm in love w/ them old trucks! Anybody close to me?

 

i live in atlanta right next to tipton so i am about 20 minutes from you. sounds like you got a nice truck. check out the april meeting man.

hows that 78 drive? can you still burn out those big 36"ers?

 

LOL, well never really tried a burnout really, but yeah it'll turn the tires on dry pavement a bit. It's got them humvee tires on it, and after finally findind a thread about those tires, i'm not to worried about burning them down too quick. haha They seem to do pretty good in mud so far, just kinda sucks when yur in the middle of a low spot in the field and ya break through the ice. Took about 15-20 minutes to get out, the neighbors really appreciated that about 12 midnight. I really don't know how deep it was but I would think at least 2 feet or soo.... Maybe less, ya know how hunters tend to stretch things a bit.

By the way, i'll try my best to be at the april meeting and can help with food and stuff. I'm not actually in Kokomo, about 15 minutes North East. I could never live in the city...

lol... least you got out in 20 minutes. I got stuck the other day in a field at 4:30 pm. didn't get out till 10:30 or so. Tried bringing another truck up there and ended up getting it stuck, So I had to get my dad and his new f-150 to come get it out. The whole way there I could tell he was ****ed, but yet I'm sure he was glad he had something to do (hes a country boy at heart living in in the boring suburbs) But we ended up snapping 2 chains before we finally got it out. It was buried to the frame.

 

The ground was pretty frozen that week that happened to me. But the ice was think enough to hold me, because i went across several times. Each time I got closer to the middle, then I stopped an popped it in 2x and though it'd be cool do do donuts out in the middle of the little pond, on top of the ice. Right about then the front end fell through, I though ohh ****. Jammed it in 4 and put the pedal to the floor, but too late.... STUCK!!! So the ice would probably have been at least 2 inches thick or more, I dunno. So i had to break the ice to get back to where i could get back on top and get the heck off of there. I didn't think my brother could pull me out w/ his 86 F150 4X4, since it would have took at least 2 tow straps hooked together to get to me, or a couple of chains, and it was in a hayfield that my uncle is gonna plow up anyway. Fun stuff!!!

Kokomo's was my home town... A buddy of mine who now lives near Kempton had
put some used Hummer tires on his '83 F-150 4X4 ( which was actually his old
cab & bed put on an F-250 chassis after wreck )---he had a heck of a front-end
balance problem he couldn't pin down where it would almost bounce off the road
when he got up to around 35 mph... He ended up getting rid of them. Did you have
any trouble getting yours going ? Watch out for that thin ice ! J.R.

I don't have anything that bad, I do have a bit of a shake at about 60 or so, I really haven't checked it out yet. My steering is sloppy probably like everyone else's. The tires are okay i'm not much into muddin, just like that big ol truck with decently big tires! I just love the sound of the 460, and hum of the tires... I woundn't mind having a little 2wd to putter around with though, save a bit on gas from the 460.. But all in due time. Thanks Steetcuzer, I have been roaming around the site almost every evening, can't seem to get enough of it.

And by the way, I did do a nice burnout the other day just to see if I could do it. It'll do it no problem!!! Yeee hawwwww
