I,m new to this forum and would like to get some feedback regarding a propane system for my 2003 6.0 4x2 Ex. Read an article about this package from ATS Diesel in TRUKINS SUV and boasted huge ivrease in HP/TRQ and 20 mpg (?). Hope this is true since family and I go to Disneyworld 2-3 times a year and drive 2 out of 3 visits from NJ.

Questions: What benefits can I expect / how safe is this option and what if any drawbacks/effects would it have on existing mods?

The following have been done:

Diablo chip
Egdebox
upgraded/larger oilpan
Trq converter
Airraid air
Magnaflow exhaust
3" lowered susp
20s all aound 285 front 305s rear

Dynoed at 412 RWHP BUT TRQ WAS ONLY AN ESTIMATION AT 800+

Ex runs great and hane no complaints whatsoever. But am really curious about the propane benefit. Any help would be gretaly appreciated. Semp Fi

Propane is not a fuel catalyst, it merely fires at a different rate than diesel. search the web for an excellent article about injection, i'll see if i can find it. (Trust a marine to want more firepower than he already has!

When used properly and for it's intended use, propane fumigation is a very safe and effective means of increasing torque, horsepower and fuel mileage. I have virtually the same modifications as you do, and run my Powershot system with the Predator on 65 for a daily driver with no EGT concerns at 440 hp or so. (see the dyno sheet in my gallery ) I see at least a 1-2 mpg increase, even when you consider the cost of the propane. An 8 gallon tank lasts about 1000-1200 miles of constant use.
The only drawback is that you run out.

 

3 local guys running lp on thier 6.0s.one has the bdog version and i installed it,the other 2 have power shot ones.all three of the trucks run very well and have extra power however one of the trucks is in the shop getting the entire motor replaced,not exactly sure what happened but i think the lp in his applicatrion helped finish it off.also i dont feel this person was careful...

 

now if u run the propane tank dry, is it bad for the engine or anything or no

No, when the tank runs out, nothing happens, except you lose the power, and believe me, you are looking to get it back quick. Good thing the tank lasts a long time.

 

im suprised it lasts that long, does it matter whether you got your foot in it or no? and how much does it usually cost to fill it up when it goes empty?

Powershot, are you running the system at 100% of its potential flow, or what setting do you run it on?

 

I only hit the maximum flow for my truck when I am at full boost. The amount of propane flow, varies (increases and decreases) as the boost increases and decreases. Mine starts at 5 psi, which is the stock setting. So under 5psi, nothing happens and as soon as I hit 5 , the propane comes on and continues to pull as long as the throttle is down. So the amount I get at 20 psi is not the amount I get at 5 or 10 or 15psi. It is very econmomical on propane usage that way and I can use it all the time to reap some mileage benefits as well.
