NH CDL question

Ok I'm gonna ask it...
I would like to go for my CDL but not sure how to start or whether I should study and take the test or go through a school.
I have started to look into going to school and there are only 2 I found in NH area, one in Berlin(NH Community Tech College) and one in Portland ME(Northeast Tech Institute). They both want about 4 grand for the 12 week course. I have a college loan already so I'm not sure if I can get another and I can't afford it out of my pocket.

Do any of you have your CDL? How did you get it? Do you know of anyone giving lessons or any other schools that would be a resonable drive from Manchester?

Thank you

I second that. Thats where I went. I was still in high school when I went and they were very accomodating to my schedule (after school, Saturdays etc.) I think it was somewhere around $2 grand when I went, if I remember right.

Another thing, I didn't take the classroom part at the school. Just the hands on part. I read the CDL book and took the written test to get the Learners Permit on my own. It was a bit cheaper this way, and I had gone over the book so many times that it would have been pointless for me to sit there and have them tell me that same stuff again.

I occasionally drive by a school in Methuen MA. I believe the name is Allied Career School? Sorry, but I don't know anything else about them.

Thank you.

I also heard of a school called Andover Tractor Trailor School. Is that still in business? Does anyone know the phone number because I cannot find any info on it.

Also, I tried to look up the school in Springfield VT but cannot find a number for the VT location, if I even had the right name. Also how far is Springfield from Manchester NH. Thank you.

I'm trying to work this around my full time job if possible.

Thank you for the information.

I called and spoke with Chris over there, had a long conversation, and I think I just need to figure out how to juggle it with work and where to get the mony from.

They are good. Most of the schools only give you 45 minutes on the road and Chris makes sure that you can handle before letting you go.

He does take the time with each student compared to the other schools.

If you don't mind being gone working for a company and really don't want to spend the money out of your pocket there are several over the road companies out there that will train you and all you have to do is work for them for usually a year.

This is starting like it won't happen. I can't get time off of work durring the week. Looks as if I will either need to forget about it or find someone that does nights and weekends. I can't afford to lose my current job.
