Just wondering what type of gas mileage you all get with your trucks I am in the process of restoring a 1950 F-1 V-8 and wondering how bad it will be and what I will get. lol

It will totally depend on your motor/transmission and gearing. Dont expect over 15, and if its less than 10 something is wrong.

 

I only get 13 but it is a223 inline 6 in my 54.

 

My 56 has a 351C with FMX tranny and a 3:50 rear end. It gets 10-13 mpg.

 

I have a 1960 F-100 with a 223 inline 6, A T98 4 speed and 3.25 rearead and im getting about 16MPG on 110 octane Leaded Marine fuel

 

55 F-100, 302 mild cam, 3:55 rear-end, C-6 transmission - 42 mpg!!!! Just kidding, 13 to 15 mpg. I am hoping that my upcoming fuel injection will get it up to 18 mpg or so.

49 F-1 351W 2 barrel, c-4 auto, 3.00 rear end. just a hair over 15 MPG but has a flatbed

 

Fuel injected 5.0 with AOD, measured in months, not miles...so far 56 mths. on the same 5 gallons of gas.

 

351-c, c4, 3:25s, 27 inch tires, 16.5, empty or loaded stoppin or cruisin, doesn't seem to matter

 

If you're going to stay with the stock engine, a '50 with flathead V8 and stock gears cruising at 50-55 will do 16-18. It goes down significantly (as does engine life) if you cruise at 60-65. T-5 or OD is the way to go, I've heard many claims for 21-22 on the highway, not sure I believe it. You're pushing a barn door down the road.

 

A 289 Ford V-8 would probably??? give an edge too. I forgot to mention I used 15" tires off of a 84 ford half ton. If you could gear it right and use 14"ers, it may help aerodynamics, mileage, etc.

Good advise Albuq. I used to get 13 MPG with my 3/4 ton with stock low gears and flathead, I think they were 4.11 or something like that.

 

Checked and rechecked my F-1 got 17.3 highway. I had a stock 302 with an Elderbrock 650 and a 2.73 rear.

Now the dream 20.

I have reworked the F-1 for a highway driver and think we may get near the 20 range, To do that we reworked a 302 with a mild roller, extensive head reworking, still using the Ellderbrock 650. A friend with a Nascar team with the software ran the numbers and we should peak at 315 horses. I added an AOD and kept the 2.73 rear and added a bed cover. Interstate sppeds should be in the range of 16-1700 rpms. We think that we may see 20 on the highway. Who knows flight testing starts the end of April, news at 11:00.

My 1960 F-100 has a 223 I6, 3.70:1 rear end, and no overdrive. I get 16 MPG both around town and on the highway. The highway mileage is no better because the engine revs up pretty high.

 

1969 F100 360 V8, three speed.......6-8 in the winter, 8-10 in the summer (if im lucky)....highway isnt all bad, but that baby sure hates interstate...shes wound up pretty tight at 70 mph.....

 

About 10 mpg in the 54 F250 with a 460, C6, and 3.73 rear. It doesn't seem to make much difference on speed or type of driving. It would be nice to have an overdrive. I passed on a Gearvenders unit for a C6 at a swap meet (cheap) a couple of years ago. Big mistake.
