97 f150 ,new engine [4.2] DTC codes

With help here I have truck with new engine on the road.Had lean condition at first cleaned MAF after reading the FAQ,s fixed the problem no codes. Drove about 50 miles an check engine light came on just got done reading dtcs.

KOEO = B1 catalyst EFFIC below threshold. What the devil does that mean?

KOER = P1000 drive cycle not complete.
= P 1116 ECT sensor out of self test range
= E40D transmission control SW fail; I had this code before the engine swap.

Any help out there. These are beyond my basic knowledge. Thanks. nj

Each bank has 2 O2 sensors. Sonsor 1 on each bank is the traditional O2 sensor for mixture control in closed loop. It commands fuel slightly rich, then slightly lean, etc. both because of the nature of the O2 sensor as a switch instead of an air/fuel ratio meter and because it needs to feed the catalytic converter both extra HC and O2 to keep it hot and efficient. This causes the precat O2 sensor to switch low to high several times a second. If the catalytic converter does it's job, it will use the extra O2 to burn the extra HC and vice versa and it shouldn't switch. The sensor 2 on each bank should see a steady result of the ups and downs of the front sensor smoothed out. If it sees the same switching pattern as the pre-cat Sensor 1, it lights the MIL and throws the cat efficiency code. This almost always means you have a bad cat or a cat with a hole in it from a previous misfire. If a previous misfire did burn a hole in it, sensor2 on that bank will always be low and you will hear it, sounds like you just bought an expensive aftermarket performance exhaust. You can patch the hole and all will likely be well.

The ECT is the engine coolant sensor. Out of range probably means less than ~.4 V or > ~4.6 V. If outside 0 and 5 V, you either have a wiring problem (which could be in other wires than the ECT) or a bad 5Vref which would require a new PCM.

The cat efficiency doesn't use Vref so those are unrelated. If you had a misfire in the old engine, the cat on the bank with the misfire probably needs patched or replaced. If the ECT were due to a bad Vref, you would be getting other codes. Problem is likely an unplugged ECT (or plugged into the wrong sensor) or a wire shorted out somewhere.

Neil do you have the actual codes that you retrieved and not just the descriptions?
A P1000 sets whenever you have the battery disconnected. It means that the PCM hasn't finished checking all the systems or that it has tried to but can't pass them all.
Your catalyst code could be causing that.
You'll get a P1116 if you do the KOER on a cold engine. The engine has to be at normal operating temperature. Or like cantrma said you could have the sensor unplugged or something.

I forgot to write down the code # on the KOEO catalyst below threshold, I cleared the code but it should come back this week and i will reread and repost. the p1116 was at operating temp. Very possible I could have a sensor unplugged after this swap I will go over all and repost. Thanks. Neil
