The 401-477-534 Super Duty motors were available in medium and heavy trucks from the 50s until the early 80s and are truck-size motors that will not go in a pickup. A 92 F250 could have had these engine choices I think:

300 I6
302 V8 (maybe)
351 V8
460 V8
7.3L IDI NA Diesel

The 302 was available in an F250. I never did understand why the truck could be ordered with a 300-6 but not with a 302. The 300 has lots of low end torque but it's dead at highway speeds. The 302 has alot more power at highway speeds than the 300 does.

In a 3/4 ton the 302 can't keep up. The 300 was a better engine and would take a little longer to get to highwya speed, but would maintain it better.

The 401-477-534 engine family were no longer produced after about 1983.
I'm not totally sure, but I believe in '92 you could have:

(4.9L) 300 I-6
(5.8L) 351 V-8
(7.5L) 460 V-8
(7.3L) 444 V-8 Diesel

I'm pretty sure the 302 was only available in the F-150....not positive though.

Nope, in 92 the 302 was offered in the 3/4 tons too..... In the F250 HD the standard engine was a 351w, with the option of the 460, or 7.3 diesel. In the F350 the same applied.... I think the 300 was also offered in the F250....

You would not want a 401-477-534 in your Bronco. First of all it would crush the front end second of all it would only run about 55 mph. They are HUGE large truck engines. Low speed high torque, low horsepower.

534-yes Yes Yes!...DO IT!

Give him a break! He DOES want a 534 in a Bronco! It could be the PERFECT engine for ANY street-driven Ford! Sure they ARE a LITTLE heavy and big, BUT, with a torch, welder, some steel, maybe an air ride suspention anyone could be "Liv'in LARGE" [w/ Zoomie headers and no fenders of course]. Seriously though, the 401-477-534 was an AWESOME engine series in it's day. Around here they came in a lot of school-busses and dump-trucks. Sodium-cooled exhaust valves, oil-cooler built in the block, 100,000 mile warranty from Ford. The dump-trucks had [GM] Allison 5-speed "Trans-Matic" manual-shift auto-trans. When I used to deliver them to county road-commision garages here in Michigan you definately wanted to use the F250 PU instead of the F100! And don't forget to hit the brakes and slide it to the front of the bed before taking off! The assemblies came w/a 13.5" clutch and bell-housing. I think they weighed about 1700 POUNDS.

Correction: Now that I think about it, the 534 on a skid w/ bellhousing & clutch was more like 1300-1400 lbs.

I know for a fact that you could get the 5.0 (302) in an F-250 at least up to 1991 and maybe later than that. My proof: My buddy's first truck was a F-250 Reg cab long box 4x4 5.0 5spd (M5OD). All stock truck. I know that it was the Mazda 5spd too, I seen it when he had it out when putting a clutch in that truck.

T. J.

P. S. ~ the 401-477-534 engine series must of been an awsome beast in there day -- but puting one in a F-Series, even a F-350 sounds about like putting a T444E (7.3 Power Stroke) in a Ranger. But what the heck -- if the will to do it is there -- Go for it!

The F250 LD's got the 302, in trucks over 8500# GVWR, it wasn't offered, only 300, 351W, 460, and whatever diesel was avalable at the time.
