I've got a 71 f 250 CS with a 390, 2 bl, and a C6 trans. It has headers and dual exhaust. When the shop installed the headers they didn't install a crossover or equalizer pipe to link the dual exhaust together. Some people I've asked say "ya gotta have it" and others tell me it's no big deal, so I'm coming to you guys to ask for help. Is it important or not?

I think it's important, when my exhaust shop did my true dual setup they didn't put a crossover pipe on my truck either, after about a week I had a crossover pipe added on and my low end improved noticably and the exhaust sounds alot better.

 

It will help the low end, but it is not vital to the truck running. It will improve low end torque, sound, and possibly like .2 mpg

 

As far as sound goes -- it really depends on what kind of sound you like or what you're after. I actually like the sound of duals without the crossover better than with.
