How to Remove a 5.4 engine?
Hi All,
The more I think about it, the more I'm leaning toward replacing the engine myself in my 98 Expy. My brother-in-law has plenty of experience doing engine R&R's but not on an Expedition...
Will the engine come out of the engine bay or does the body have to be removed?
Have any of you removed a 5.4 from a 97-02 Expy? Any advice is GREATLY appreciated!

If you have access to a good 2 post hoist then lifting the body is how I would do it.
If you don't have a hoist to use then yes it can be removed the "old" way.
If you decide to do it without lifting the body I would remove the inner fender liners to get at the sides of the engine. Also if you remove the front and middle body mount bolts you can raise the front of the body up a few inches to make it easier to access the bellhousing bolts and wiring at the back of the engine.

I used to do alot of those. In F150s mostly but we did do as couple expeditions.
The motor will come out the top but you will need to remove the intake. The engine sits so far back that it will not come up enough to allow it to come forward. We made plates with a eye hook in the middle (Lift Point) and bolted it down were the Intake was.
