Hi everyone,

First let say that is a great site, im glad i found it. A little info, i have 1999 f150 4x4 lariat ext cab with a 6" lift and 3" body lift and a 2002 expedition with a 6" lift.

My question is, when i bought the f150 used i never checked to see if the heater worked, so when i went to use it the other day all that came out was cold air, the defroster works fine. Someone told me to check the wire on the relay or something to make sure it is ok, is this true. What else should i look for?

The heater core might be bypassed.
Since the repair could cost $600-$700 at the dealer, many warm weather owners have bypassed the heater core by cutting into the hoses under the hood near the fire wall and bypassing the whole thing.
The other possibilty could be the Blender door which encases the Heater core in the Heater Plenum.
If your wanting to do the job yourself, Ive got a pretty good 18 pg instruction doc with illustrations and numerous tips for your reading pleasure.
Roughly 40.00 for the heater core, 15.00 for new hose seals and a gallon or two of antifreeze. Vs $600 labor. send me an email if your interested in the doc.

Hey there.
Hear is an idea you might want to try first. Warm the truck up to normal temp. Pull the **** off the dial for heat that goes blue to red Temp control. Take a pair of pliers and turn the heat control **** all the way to the left, then to the right. See if the temp changes. If the air gets worm, the **** might be cracked.

Thanks for the ideas. I will be looking into this over the next couple of days when i get a chance. Also my wife pulled the **** off and said that it looked like it was cracked, so i am going to try that first.

No, wait!!
It would be so much more entertaining (for us) and educational if you tried that last after you removed the dash to find nothing wrong there. Oh well, all's well that ends well.

I hope that new **** fixes your problem.

Awwww man!! I wanted to see removing the dash just to replace a **** too!

 

Until I see the mods to next years truck, I wont speculate on the creativity of Ford engineers to come up with a behind the dash **** assembly to replace the broken ****.

Thanks again for the tips. I checked out the **** and it was loose and figured i would check it the next time i drove the truck. So my wife calls me and she was driving to work and said she wished the heater worked because it was like an ice box. So i said try it again, and she went oh my gosh there is heat coming out, she was so happy

Thanks again for all the help, this is a great site. I also tried the tip for the keyless entry and it turns out that it has that also. So now i am going to get some key fobs off ebay
