Virginia Chapter
For the past two and a half weeks the FTE members in Virginia have been attempting to form a chapter. The request was first submitted on 1 November 2004 by Rory Goggin properly using this page to submit the request with FTE management. At this time we probably had around 8 - 10 people who were enthused about joining. We waited patiently finding out that Ken (webmaster) had been out at SEMA and was not here for us to contact. Once Ken came back from SEMA we figured that it would only be a matter of a couple days or so and we'd have our chapter all set up for us. At that time the following Private Message was sent to Ken by Rory to see what was going on.
The only response we received back was the following.
Rory responded with the following.
So after patiently waiting Rory called me to tell me that he had heard nothing and asked for me to give it a shot. I resubmitted the paperwork, this time with 42 members who wanted to start a Virginia Chapter. After waiting a little while hoping we'd see something I began to notice that other Virginia members were getting very upset with the time delays and had begun to discuss forming a group outside of FTE. Rory and I were also becoming very frustrated due to the fact that we were ready to go, both are willing to become chapter leader but we surf around to other chapters who have their boards with no activity and no leaders.
So I sent Ken the following message:
We just want to know whats going on. If nothing is going to be set up for us then please just tell us to bug off and we'll go somewhere else but we'd defenitly prefer to stay.
Here is the list of Virginia members as I have them put together so far:

I didn't know you were out of town when I applied last Monday. The natives are getting restless. We now have 22 "subscribed" members in the Virginia Chapter, and everyone is wanting to know when we are going to have our first meeting. I've been telling them to hold off arranging the meeting and such until we have our own forum.
I understand if it takes time to set this up, but, um....can you give me anything to "go back to the troops with"?
I understand if it takes time to set this up, but, um....can you give me anything to "go back to the troops with"?
Are you going to be the Chapter Leader?
Well, we've not got a forum yet, so we haven't been able to arrange for our off-line meeting in order to vote for officers. However, I was the one to submit the paperwork so many are looking to me for answers and asking "have you heard anything yet?"
Did you not receive the application?
Did you not receive the application?
So I sent Ken the following message:
Ken,
Hi Ken, my names Christopher Sipes I'm helping Rory with forming the Virginia Chapter. We currently have 42 members that want to start a Virginia Chapter and I just resubmitted the application for it earlier. Rory wanted me to talk to you personally to see if there is anything that we are doing wrong because we were hoping to get a forum set up for ourselves quicker.
Right now it looks like we will be having our first get together this weekend. I just have to get back intouch with one of the guys about what I work on Saturday and Sunday so we can set a time and post it.
Rory and I both would be willing to be the leader for the Chapter, right now him and I are kinda sharing duties trying to get it all orginized. We were just hoping that we would get our forum set up so that there would be no confusion between the Virginia guys and the other mid-atlantic states. Right now we are just going off one very long thread.
Rory and I are frustrated due to the fact that we seem to be a lot more orginized and ready to go then a lot of the other chapters who already have their own forums and we feel as if we're kinda ignored. The people supporting us have seen this and are already talking amoung themselves of starting the group outside of FTE. Rory and I do not want to do that, we love it here at FTE. Obviously we can not control what the other members do so if it takes much longer we might be losing members instead of gaining them.
If there is anything we are doing wrong just set us straight and we'll fix it.

just a restless native
i as well as the other VA Chapter members are begining to feel very unrecognized as well as neglected by the webmaster and being that he is representing FTE in this matter we feel neglected by FTE as well. this isnt a good sign and im sure some people are thinkin "skrew you guys, go somewhere else" and as of now there is speculation of just that happining. now this isnt a threat because that would accomplish nothing, but i do think the FTE webmaster needs to get off his @$$ and get the ball rolling here. We've done our part and plan to continue doing so, but the ball is in your court now and we cant make the shot unless you pass it. so be a team player here and help.

I see one the problems.
The letters were to Ken, not to me
Ken, The Webmaster is NOT to be bothered with stuff like this.
Telling him to *get off his **** is hardly a mature comment.
FYI, He gets between 2000-6000 e-mail a day.
One question :
How many of these user's that have been listed, meet the "create the chapter pre-requistes "?
Chapter Overview And Rules
In order to start a Chapter you must have minimum of 5 FTE members willing to join. Each member must be an active FTE user for at least 30 days. The member organizing the Chapter must be an FTE user for at least 60 days.
I have been waiting for this count as I have created a chapter in error that didn't meet the requirements at that time.

I'll go through the list and find out how long people have been members for you. Mathematically it's more then assured that we have enough people to meet the requirments, but I'll find out for you.

Got it covered, Chris.
The original application was submitted via the web form provided. I'll quote from it.
1. My FTE user id: Rory Goggin<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>
<o> </o>
2. The user ids of Franken-Truck<o></o>
at least 5 FTE users interested in joining the Chapter: Franken-Truck, 65vamonster, wdsmithjr, bob hare & Tomcat7742 all in the Tidewater Virginia area, where the Ford plant is! There are others interested also.<o></o>
<o> </o>
3. Name of Chapter: Virginia Chapter
Nothing in the form state to whom that form was being sent. I'd already sent a PM to YOU, Million when the thread had first started, to see if you could give us some kind of direction. Since I'd gotten no response, I started helping the formation of the chapter along and ended up submitting the form requesting a chapter formation myself. A week later, I PMed Webmaster as Chris (Tomcat7742) stated above. He quotes the subseqent develpements as they happened. Ken never said "talk to Million" - he just asked if I was the Chapter leader.
NOWHERE is there any statement that the Webmaster is NOT to be "bothered" with "stuff like this" - and quite frankly, I think that is NOT the kind of attitude I'd expect from this Club - nor would I expect any businessman to express that to a "customer" - not if he expects to stay in business. What I WOULD expect would be a statement to the effect that "Well, we seem to have had some miscommunications here because I've been assigned to handle those areas of responsibility and Ken probably thought that I was handling it." Ken is NOT my boss. Don' t tell me "Don't bother him with your petty problems." (which is what I hear when you say what you said) That does NOT cause me to feel "nice" at all. And I come here to feel "nice".

Not bothering Ken means he doesn't have time to look after chapter's or other things Himself.
He was working 20 hrs/day.
That's too much
With 3 other Adminstrators on FTE to look after things that Ken used to do, getting ahold of Ken is unnecessary.
Like I stated in my last reply, I will take the heat for this,so further remarks about Ken will be un-warranted. I'm sorry that you feel the eway you do about Ken.
Explanation:
The creation of chapter's process had slowed down considerably because I was over-zealous when I created 2 chapter's lately.
Also, We had to refrain from changing things (adding or removing things) in the "FTE Data Base because of the server update issue which lasted longer than expected.
Now Virginia will receive my Attention
I won't comment on this topic any more.

Alright, I'm sorry but I am no longer interested in hearing about how busy Ken is and how he is not to be contacted over Chapter matters. If that is the case, why don't the three of you get together and add to the Chapters page, "Any questions and/or comments should be sent directly to Mil1ion." That would fix the entire problem of people contacting Ken instead of you when they try to form a chapter or have a chapter question.
If you were not able to add us a forum due to server upgrades or the like, why didn't you just stop by the Mid~Atlantic forum and say something. Would have helped a lot to hear, "hey guys, we're going to get you started but due to current server upgrades it's not possible at this time."
What are you going to take the heat over? As far as we can see there is not any heat to take, just help us get our stuff set up so we can move on with our chapter meetings. If Ken is upset that we added a couple PM's to his box then I'll give you my cell phone number, him and I can sit and talk about it. Heck if it was that big of a deal he should have said "hey guys, contact Mil1ion he can help you out" instead of saying "are you the chapter leader?"
Lastly, saying that you will no longer post anything on this topic is very common. I could see if you were my boss but last I checked this wasn't Home Depot and I know at my job we don't talk to eachother like that. You guys should always be open to more comments and suggestions, it's how you fix things.
By the way, what's the current time frame on us getting a board? It'd be a big help getting one so that we could get our effort centralized onto one board.

I understand that the world revolves around each person and their requests but please understand that I have hundreds of other requests, emails and PMs each day wanting the world to revolve around and prioritize their request. There is only so much I can handle in a work day (yesterday it was from 8:30 am to 2am the following morning). It will get done in the order I have of things in my to-do list, which includes 2 other chapters before the Virginia Chapter.

I have a background in website development, so do some of the other guys and we all know that it doesn't take that long to set up a forum. No less 2 1/2 weeks, especially with four people.
When you ignore people for a couple weeks they get upset...

In support of Ken Payne and FTE as a whole I would like to make it a point to say how sad it is that this has become such a well... disaster. It is not our god-given right to have our own chapter forum on FTE as Virginians. Yes it is a great idea and I do believe much benefit can come from it. Why is it that some us are so impatient I'm not sure what it takes to generate a chapter here, but I am sure that is more than just a few mouseclicks. If one were to go back and read this thread as a whole it becomes obvious that some of us have become quite ungrateful and put a bad taste in the mouths of our leaders. i.e. the ones who provide this site and ALLOW us to be part of it. Some would like to blame it on the young guns however being a 21 year old college student, I disagree. Good things come to those who wait! Why not just be patient and let our administators work on our problems and requests IN TURN with all the other hundreds of things they have to do each day. We haven't had a Virginia chapter since this site was created, and are able to be part of another (mid-atlantic) if we so desire. I don't see why waiting a few months or so is such a big deal. I know everyone becomes impatient at one time or another, but its how we deal with that impatience that shows.
Lets do a better job.
Please think twice about posting rude and deragatory comments. It not only makes you look bad but those who'm you are representing (in this case Virginians) as well
